DB Cooper imo.

I want to believe SO BADLY that both instances were successful undertakings for those involved. These 2 stories have always fascinated me.

I think the '62 Alcatraz escape may have been successful.

Same. If it's on TV, I'm watching.

History Channel did a special on Alcatraz about a year ago with some pretty compelling evidence that the escapees made it out. The family had Christmas cards and photo of the brothers some years later on a farm in Brazil or Argentina.

Brad Meltzer had a great piece on History as well about DB Cooper.

Easily DB Cooper, because even if the prisoners that escaped from Alcatraz survived(which I doubt the did) they would be in their 90s.

Neither.
I think the FBI just doesn't want to waste anymore time on these old cases.
They are 45 and 55 years old. There are more current and pressing issues for the agency to use its resources.

I'm of the opinion both have been solved. But not to make the people involved even more of folk heroes, the investigation results have been suppressed.

Of course being unsolved is what makes it interesting.

While I would hope you are correct, you know this isnt the case. What FBI agent wouldnt love to finally have the last word and say the cases were solved?

As has been posted, Alcatraz is believed to have been solved. History channel did a special that included photos and voice recordings from the escapees. Fascinating show.

ETA: As WP posted above, the two hitched a ride behind a ferry used to transport guards - by using extension chords to secure their rafts to the ferry. They had done this as kids in the river, using rope and docked boats. They didn't have to paddle/swim all the way across, as had been believed for decades.

New Alcatraz lead

I saw this a few months ago. I'd like to believe that they got away, but this story was pretty convincing.

They so got away and so did Cooper. It is just an easy out for the FBI to say "they probably drowned" so they don't look incompetent, plus it may upset the general public to know that escaped convicts are on the loose.
