quote:

"This defendant may have thought he had quite a haul when he took nearly $200,000 in quarters from the Federal Reserve's coin storage at Brink's, but now he carries a heavier load. He must repay the money and face a federal sentence."

He was a Brinks employee. Seems like eight out of ten of these robberies are committed by the employees hired to protect the money.

Even better, he attempted to hide the theft by replacing the coins with "beads" (I am assuming Mardi Gras beads ?). How in the hell did he think that was going to go unnoticed for very long? He did the switch right in the bank holding facility which you just know is covered with security cameras. Idiot.

BTW, they do regional cash distributions for the US Treasury at a bank facility in Shreveport. They don't really publicize it. I found out when I had to go to my office one morning early to grab some papers before a flight. I didn't want to park in the garage so I street parked and ran down the basement loading ramp intending to jump on the service elevator. Came around a corner and there were two dudes with shotguns and a pallet jack putting a full pallet of bills wrapped in clear plastic into a armored truck. I came hauling arse running around the corner and we all scared the shite out of each other. We laughed about it after everyone calmed down. A full pallet of bills is an impressive sight. He said they do the plastic wrap to keep anyone from pinching a handful of bills off the stack.
