...in 1994 robbery.

quote:

State prosecutors said Melson and another man who used to work at the restaurant, robbed a Popeye's in Gadsden, 60 miles (96 kilometers) northeast of Birmingham, and Melson opened fire on four employees in the restaurant's freezer. Nathaniel Baker, Tamika Collins and Darrell Collier were killed. The surviving employee, Bryant Archer, crawled for help and was able to identify one of the robbers as the former worker which led police to Melson.

Sounds like the execution took place about 23 years too late.

I remember hearing about this when it happened because I grew up not far from there. Dude basically herded them into the freezer and executed them. Its pitiful it's taken this long to make him stand to account for his actions.

No, but he was marinated with midazolam.

No, they use the needle here now. I wish they'd go back to Yellow Momma though.

Last meal was a 3-piece white, spicy, w/ red beans and rice and Cajun fries.

Guy had been waiting 23 years to be executed because he was told to "please pull forward and park and we'll bring your execution out to you."

Good riddance to old rubbish.

BTW, is anyone else sick of hearing about the 'controversy' over the drugs used to put these vermin down?

I have no idea why they don't use what veterinarians use. When we put my dog down in 2011, she took 4 breaths and that was it. It took less than 30 seconds.

Or why not use succinylcholine (sp?)? That stuff is ultra-deadly in high doses. There's just way too many viable options to keep trying other stuff.

The guillotine is only a couple hundred years old. Before people got so lazy, they used axes like real men.

So the taxpayers have been on the hook for 23 years for this convicted murderer? Something don't smell right here. This system is such a money grab on the public.

"Alabama's execution protocol is an illusion. It creates the illusion of a peaceful death when in truth, it is anything but," Melson's attorneys wrote in the filing to the Alabama Supreme Court.

I am sure the three victims were enjoying their peaceful murders too.

How can for-profit prisons make money if we just execute prior right away? We have to squeeze every last tax dollar out of them before we spend thousands on a proprietary execution drug.

There are lots of cheaper methods to execute someone but they're just not profitable.
