Has anyone or someone you know that’s been air lifted to a hospital? I just witnessed one. It rarely happens. II guess you have to be important. How does this work?

I believe getting the bill for that would kill me, negating the value of the air lift

No idea how it works, but a friend's son was after a terrible car accident.

I used to live within walking distance of the hospital here (level 1) and I'd say a prayer every time I heard that helicopter.

Have a few flight nurse friends. At a children’s hospital too. I wouldn’t wanna do that job.

My brother was airlifted with altitude sickness on a ski trip when I was a kid. He went from feeling slightly woozy in the morning to barely being able to breathe by lunch. Was in the helicopter to Denver by 1:30. Doctors said if he had tried to tough it out and stay on the mountain he would have died by midnight. Needless to say, altitude sickness can be some serious shite for some people.

they run a credit check when they arrive at the scene of the wreck before they will put you in the chopper

My Pops had a heart attack and the ambulance took him to the closest hospital. Once they stabilized him they wanted to air lift him to the better heart hospital in the area, but medflight was already in use, so they transported him by ambulance.

I'm kind of glad they didn't fly him, and so was he.

My mom was a trauma nurse on a helicopter for a while. You don't have to be important at all. I think it was mostly car accidents or people who had an accident out in the sticks where an ambulance to the hospital in a dire situation would take way too long.

A teammate broke his leg so bad during a football game he had to be airlifted. Pretty surreal.

Is it true that most insurance doesn't cover airlift?
Seems like I heard of patients getting $25k+ bill after airlift.
I'd do it in a minute to survive obviously, but why wouldn't this be covered in such extreme circumstances?

Yes, my brother and I. We were in a dirt bike wreck when I was 14 & he was 11 or 12. I had a shattered nose & broken femur, he has a broken arm & kept asking the same question so they thought he may have had some brain trauma, I tried telling them he's always been a bit of a dumbass but they wouldn't listen. They opted to air lift us both instead of an ambulance ride. We're all good now but I can't imagine the horror my parents must've felt. Yes, we had helmets, and I'm still a huge advocate for helmets and safety gear to this day as I feel we'd probably both be dead if not for it.

Well, an internal combustion engine spins a shaft through a crankcase and spins the big blades....that makes it go up.

Im told it is a little more complicated than that but thats the basics.

Had a ULM student over the summer, who was at a pool party, decided to jump off the roof, and didn’t make it to the pool. Hit the concrete before the pool. He was airlifted from a piece of land right next to my apartment complex. Ended up being fine but they were worried he had a spinal injury I’m sure.

you can get supplemental insurance through Aflac, but I wouldn't trust a goose to get someone as heavy as me very far
