People are shooting up four to 15 times a day, sharing needles with as many as six other people at a time.

"There are children and parents and grandparents who live in the same house who are injecting drugs together as a sort of community activity," said Dr. Joan Duwve, chief medical consultant for the Indiana department of health.

If I lived in Indiana I would probably need to do a lot of drugs to cope too.

The town is only like 900 people. It was 90 a month or so ago. Now, 142. And that's only the people who have been tested. That town is going to be wiped out.

Needles are less than ten cents a piece, who the hell would need to share?

Plus the fact that giving away free needles doesn't stop idiots from sharing them.

I'd hazard a guess it's pure junkie laziness. I've never done needle drugs, but I know when I'm hammered or high, my standards for many things drop.

For now, CDC is helping Indiana officials track down infections. Needle exchanges are illegal in Indiana, but Gov. Mike Pence, a Republican, has issued an executive orderallowing temporary needle exchanges.

Just sell the damn things OTC like other states do. Why is that so hard

In Ga and SC both theyre legal to buy without a prescription, but most stores make you show an insulin prescription or similar or go through a bunch of grief if you even get them

Like a drug addict is gonna go "well. couldnt find any rigs. guess its time to quit"

So much backward thinking

We can probably thank the trial lawyers for that. If you (not you personally) go to the pharmacy and buy needles OTC, then overdose on heroin, your family will sue the pharmacy looking for a lottery verdict. "Look at that evil corporation! They didn't even make sure the needles were for a legitimate purpose! They just wanted to make a buck and now this promising young life is over!"
