Anyone have any experience with this and can speak on how much “maintenance” ball pythons require?

Kids are allergic to dogs/cats, but it’s time they learn some responsibility via pet ownership…

They can get up to six feet long and live several decades in captivity. Unless you secretly deep down want a pet python for the rest of your life, I would seriously reconsider one as a "hopefully this will teach the kiddos some responsibility" pet option

Most important thing you need to worry about when installing any kind of large animal aquarium in your home is to not bump into your above-ground pool or jacuzzi when brining it inside. I would also say that your cigarette smoke may be noxious for the snake, but if you keep the window units on, it should pull that smoke air out.

I really hope you’re trolling. Pythons and Pit Bulls are not pets.

If you don't want to do something easy like fish or smaller reptiles that don't live very long, maybe consider a bearded dragon? They seem fairly popular as pets, get up to two feet long, and live about a decade. So basically a small dog.

ETA: Just saw that 504 got me while I was typing

Get a neck tattoo so you don't look like a poser at the pet store.

Ball pythons are very tame. If your set on getting a snake, it's your best bet. They don't get very big. Just make sure the top of your aquarium is very secure. They have a habit of getting out.
