My son worked his tail off to make the 9th grade football team this year. Having never played football before, he rose to the challenge and I couldn’t be more proud. Had a great jamboree the other night by the way.

All that being said, I told my son to request #18, as it is an important number to me and my family as LSU fans. His coach sort of blew him off.

I took the coach aside after the jamb when they were headed to the locker room after the game and brought it up again, he blew me off as well and said “can we please talk about this another time?”

No one has 18 on the 9th grade team, so I don’t understand the hold up. My question is, should I keep pursuing it? Not sure how to handle the situation.

If you are serious, which I really hope you are not, this is high school. There are no number requests in high school. That's little league stuff. As the father of a multisport high school athlete myself, you get the number you get and that's the end of it. I've never spoken a word to any of my oldest son's high school coaches. Not one word.

I think you should keep pushing the issue. It will really work out in your son’s favor.

Oh boy

quote:

That number is important to my family

WTF?

Unless you are related to someone that wore 18 for LSU, this is very strange

Do not keep pursuing this. You are going to annoy the coach (if you haven't already), and this could negatively affect your son's experience on the team.

It's your son's team. If this is that important to him, he will need to talk with HIS coach.

ETA: I truly hope this is a troll. But in case it's not, see above.

Don’t be that parent.

Your 9th grader gets left over numbers. Most of high schools don’t have complete sets of numbers for each level of football. If someone on Varsity or JV has 18 then it’s prob not available for a 9th grader.

If your son isn’t Tom Brady he’s going to get whatever number he gets in 9th grade football. Leave the coach alone with that bullshite. I’m pretty sure my home and away jerseys were different numbers in 9th grade.

Obvious troll

But also a realistic scenario that likely happens more often than one would think

Which is a serious indictment on the current state of society

TLDR: you are a titty bitch

You should tell that coach he may lose a very good player over something so stupid. He had some nerve not to give your kid an unused number.
