I'm adding a 6 ft. privacy fence to one of my property lines. It's 133 linear feet, no gates needed. I got a quote for $2,660.00 using treated pine. Comes out to $20.00 per linear foot. Also got quoted $2,859.00 using cedar.

Is that the normal going rate? Also, is it worth paying a little more for cedar rather than treated pine? TIA for any advice.

Seems high, but it has been years since I built fences for money.

how many gates does that include or are they extra?

It is high/high average. Pay the extra for cedar.

Find out the thickness of the boards. They used to use 5/8 inch boards but lately I am seeing 1/2 inch boards. The thinner boards don't seem to hold up as well.

I don't need any gates. It's just to separate my property from the neighbor's. I think gates usually go for $250 extra.

it's not hard work, you can buy the 6' sections from Lowes for $40 or so.

seems like a really high quote for pine, and an OK quote for cedar. only $200 more for cedar is a no-brainer to me.

Call Scott Fence. I had a 6' cedar fence installed by them recently and they were the cheapest I could find. Reputable company too, as far as I know. The install went great.

That's probably what I should do but man I don't really have the extra time right now.

Yeah if you have help it really isn't that bad. My dad and I took our time and knocked it out over a Sat/Sun. Save you some $.

Quick math says that is $850 in materials for the pine. Make your decision based on that. I would think $14-$15 per foot would be the going rate. $20 seems high.

Build it yourself - it's not that difficult. I had major repairs needed to my fence that needed to be done, so I scrapped the tPOS fence that was there and started from scratch. It looks fantastic too, but I enjoy doing that sort of thing with my free time.

It's not near as difficult as one would think FWIW

I will definitely get more quotes before I decide on anything. Thanks. I was shocked that I could be that much, honestly.

i would agree. if it weren't for digging the post holes. I replaced 400 ft of fencing and only replaced the really bad posts(about 20) and it is definitely not what i would call "easy" work.

one fence I did was what they called a "cedar treated pine" from Home Depot. It has looked much better than actual cedar and it has been up about 3 years longer than the cedar.

That's high.
Go with the cedar.
And if you really want privacy go to 8'

Just curious, did you use 4x4's for the posts or galvanized?
