Actinic Keratosis

Anyone have any experience with this? I noticed dozens of small brownish red spots all confined to my shins and calves on both legs. Literally nothing above my knees or below my ankles. The affected area just happens to be the one area (like an idiot) I forgot to apply any sunscreen on all weekend. Was in the boat, fishing off the dock, etc all weekend and totally neglected this area as far as sunscreen goes (bangs head). Looks almost like an allergic reaction or multiple bug bites except they don't burn or itch at all. Reading webmd the closest thing to describe it sounds like actinic keratosis. A little concerning in that they are considered precancerous and there's a 10 to 15% of any one of them turning into squamous cell carcinoma. Not a big deal if you have a few spots but a little bigger deal if you have dozens of them. Treatment seems to be either an expensive topical cream or having them frozen off (which hurts like a mfer from my past experience with a few warts). Anyone ever have this on their shins (or other parts of their body?

Seeing my dermatologist on Monday. I think it's AK and was set off by my dumbass letting my lower legs bake in the sun all weekend without any sunscreen or other protection.

that is not the typical distribution of actinic keratosis (AK). They normally occur on sun exposed regions of your skin like the cheeks, tops of ears, nose, hands, arms, shoulders, and top of head (for us bald guys). I doubt what you have is AK. It could be a fungal infection (just a guess). try some topical antifungal creams you can get over the counter at the drug store and if that doesn't work, then go see you primary care doctor. If he can't fix it, he'll get you in with a dermatologist.

AK takes decades to develop. It didn't crop up over a weekend. You may just have gotten a really bad sunburn (second degree) and your skin is just now starting to peel off.

This is going to sound stupid but were you drinking corona with lime? There is something called "Mexican Beer Dermatitis" that occurs when a chemical in limes gets on your skin and then is exposed to sunlight. It's more pronounced in people with olive toned skin. It results in brownish stains and can be spotty if your spray beer on yourself while sinking the lime.
