All Tranes coils (inside and outside) are now made with aluminum. It's not a difficult call if you know all the facts. There is no future with R-22.

I went with American Standard which owns Trane. Mine is all aluminum too.

Wanted to update everybody, I got a Trane system...both outside and inside units sans the gas furnace for $4300 installed.

Good deal?

So my compressor went out a few days ago,

probably not. Install new Start/Run capacitor and install a hard start kit and see if it kicks.

Total for parts and very easy to install. $50

Hard start kit

You think I went out there and kicked it a few times and came to the conclusion on my own that the compressor went bad?

Also, I changed out both capacitors before I called anybody initially and I even checked the drip pan!

To the person asking, it is a 3-ton unit

the possibility did cross my mind, yes.

you're one up on most people who have no clue. Changing the start/run capacitor was the right thing to do. Tell me this. When the condensing unit would kick on, did the fan run? Did the compressor even make a humming sound?
