About 20 years ago - A bunch of animal rights activists set a bunch of different breeds free. The bigger ones didn't get far bc they tired out too quick, but there were apparently spider monkeys out n about for years.

Longer than that. I was A little kid, and I remember one day my Grandfather came running in yelling about a monkey in the trees above the pool. It was comical with people running every which way...shotguns and cameras

It happened in the mid 90s as well

That's the one I remember. That same weekend - Somebody set bats loose in theaters in Slidell and Mandeville. I was giddy to find out what animals were going to end up where next.

Monkey's have been getting loose from time to time as long as that place has been there. One of my cousins shot one hunting close to there back in the 70's.
