re: A Picture of the New 747 Engines

Chevron is actually a wave like pattern. I found this out when a girl asked if I had seen her chevron bag at my house and I looked for 30 minutes to find a chevron gas station bag.

A chevron is essentially a "v"

If you put them all in a row then it would in fact form a wave like pattern, but the pattern is not the chevron. The pattern consists of chevrons.

I think high performance planes are using serrated edges on the wings to alter shock waves and reduce noise and drag. I guess it has the same effect on the tail end of the engine to alter the shock waves.

This will pretty much remain the same as none of the major US airlines have purchased the new 747.

Why?

re: A Picture of the New 747 Engines
that KLM 747 at SXM could actually be busted, he's technically landing on an unusable portion of the runway
ETA: BTW those are called Chevron markings, and mean that that portion of the runway is usable for taxi/takeoff only

So you look at everything that has similar edges to the Chevron symbol and assume it's called chevron?

well, yea. chevron didn't use that symbol on accident. they used a chevron design when they were still part of standard oil so when the company was created, they named it what people already identified them as: chevron

the more you know...

You're ignoring my point. If you didn't know that term before, now you do. I don't see why I got the durr, other than the fact that you like to find something to criticize in every thread.

My favorite vid of that airport. 30 seconds long.

I still think it's a fun little fact, and I'm leaving it there.

cool video, also very unusual in that takeoffs to the west are pretty uncommon at SXM

How much thrust can those serrated engines produce?

I knew what a Chevron is but I would bet 99% of people don't and I doubt anyone figured it out based upon looking at Chevrons logo!
