The perp was killed by officers, so there is a tiny bit of good in the story.

It sounds like the police did the best they could, but it shows just how ineffective they can be at preventing crime.

Had six people murdered in a land dispute (more of a grudge) in East Texas not long ago, near Palestine. The people had bought the land of the father of the murderer, they were kind of "Yankee," the murderer pulled them out of the mud one day, sat around the campfire then killed all of them but one:
