ASCENSION – An eight-year-old boy was left on a school bus Monday for eight hours after he fell asleep on his way to school, Ascension Parish School District confirms.

The child was a second grade student at Donaldsonville Primary. The boy's aunt told News 2 that she was not contacted by the school after it was noticed that he was not in attendance.

Ascension Public Schools spokeswoman Jackie Tisdell said that leaving the child on the bus is "totally unacceptable." Tisdell said that the school district is investigating the incident.

The child was not harmed and made it home safely.

bet that kid was freaking out...

also I know when my kids dont make it to school we get an email at the very least notifying the parents.

A kid that does that is not having somebody making him sleep at night time. Add the aunt, or auntee, to the list of guilty parties.

If he was a few years older that would have been the best day ever. Fall asleep on the bus and wake up on the ride home.

I always get a message on my phone too. Not sure why the aunt is saying no one contacted her; unless she is not on file with the school as the notifying guardian of the child. Glad he's ok.

So now it's the family's fault he got left on the bus? You have no idea why this kid was sleepy in the morning and neither do I. For all we know he could be scared of the dark or have sleep problems other than his aunt not making him go to bed. You cannot force a child to fall asleep.

The fact that you're never right about anything further validates my point.

I fell asleep on the bus one time on the way home. The busdriver noticed I was still there after the last stop and woke me up to take me home. She remembered my stop so I only got home about 30 minutes later than normal. With a less attentive or professional bus driver, things could have gone very badly.

Kid wasn't hurt. Discipline the bus driver. Move on.

I wonder why the boys aunt doesn't bring him to school herself?

You can't, but what you can do is make sure they're in bed by a reasonable time (for a second grader is probably 8/8:30. Make them read before bed to wind down. It's definitely not possible in all circumstances but a good bedtime routine does wonders for a kid.
