And yes, Florida.
quote:
An 8-year-old Boynton Beach, Fla. girl is dead after sustaining injuries from drinking boiling water out of a straw as part of a sick dare.
quote:
According to the Palm Beach Post, the little girl, identified as Ki’ari Pope, complained to her mother’s boyfriend late Sunday that she couldn’t breathe. Within minutes she was unresponsive, the man said. Ki’ari was rushed to the hospital by emergency responders, but was pronounced dead 12:15 a.m. Monday.
quote:
The news site notes that state records show that Ki’ari burned her mouth and throat back in March after her cousin dared her to drink boiling water from a straw. Department of Children and Families records called her “medically compromised.” Further investigation by state authorities into the March incident uncovered at least nine other allegations of either abuse or neglect involving Ki’ari since her birth, the Palm Beach Post said.

Five other reports looked into alleged violence between the mother and her boyfriend.

How old was the cousin who dared her?
That's heartbreaking.
That's heartbreaking.

She died this week from injuries sustained back in March?
ETA - damn, it appears that's the case. I wonder what happened this week to trigger it. Appears she had a tracheotomy.

I was wondering that myself.
But what a shitty story all around. Very curious as to the age of the cousin, as another person has already brought up.

They read it as 100 deg F instead of 100 deg C!

Thread title is a little misleading. Looks like she drank the boiling water in March. Sounds almost like an allergic reaction.

These pranks and dares just get stupider and stupider.
Watched one where the kid puts rubbing alcohol on their body and then lights it. They called it the "fire challenge"
Well of course they can't put it out like they planned. Then their hair catches fire.
Just stupid. Pure stupidity. A failure to realize basic facts.
Boiling water and fire will horribly burn you. Life lessons

infection?
apparently way back when it originally happened, she had a trach that left her deaf and all fricked up
she ended up dying from all the issues/complications this week
quote:
Ki’ari received a tracheotomy, an incision in the windpipe that reportedly left her deaf and with chronic respiratory problems.
quote:
The 8-year-old told her mother’s “paramour” late Sunday she couldn’t breathe, according to records from the Florida Department of Children and Families. Minutes later she was unresponsive, the 29-year-old told authorities.
so she just couldn't overcome the injuries long term
