What does the title of this thread have to do with the OP
I'm trying to figure it out
Eta: probably why it's anchored

160,000 base a year
96,000 a year after taxes, health premiums, 401(k) contributions plus those lovely Federal and California taxes.
48,000/yr after I pay alimony.

i was making six figures by age 30. Some of my friends from college were among half of that with crappy jobs. That part made me feel good. I don't work any harder than I need to and I rarely work over 40 hours. But I'm good at my job and work efficiently. So my hourly rate is much higher than most who make what I do based on the hours alone and that's what is important to me. My family comes first.

I got drunk 3 times a week instead of 2.

I'll likely never make 100k/yr. I'm self employed and would never pay myself that much. My family and I live fine off of 60k and I can stay home anytime I need to, make all of my sons ballgames, etc. Quality of life and ability to see my kids growup is much more important to me.

How would making more money affect the time u spend with your family if you're self employed??? Am I missing something here?
Are you saying you would have to work a lot more hours in order to pay yourself 100k? Because it just sounded like you choose not to pay yourself that much just because you don't need it

Yeah. I'm self employed also and did all of those things with my kids as well and make a hell of a lot more than $60k a year. Learn to work more effectively and efficiently and you can do both.

you pretty much need 150k a year between you and your spouse to live comfortable with kids.
It might sound like a lot. But like someone said its nothing like it use to be.
It seemed like back in the day when I was at 50 i had more money.
it is nice to only work 40 hr weeks, with options of working from home and coming in late and leaving early to deal with kid stuff.
I know people that make around the 6 figure area but work 80+ hours and on the weekends and are pretty much always on call. Not something I could handle.
