Five people were shot in rapid succession Friday afternoon in Tremé and the 7th Ward, New Orleans police said. Investigators were seeking two gunmen in a red Nissan Versa with an out-of-state license plate and possibly missing its passenger-side mirror.

Four victims, all male, were wounded in the 2100 block of Gov. Nicholls St. One was thought to suffer critical injuries, New Orleans police spokesman Tyler Gamble said. Another male was shot six blocks away near the intersection of North Roman and LaHarpe streets.

Police Superintendent Michael Harrison and his second-in-command, Deputy Superintendent Robert Bardy, were surveying the Gov. Nicholls scene with more than a dozen detectives and uniformed officers. Officers said the gunman's Versa was last seen traveling from the North Roman shooting scene down LaHarpe toward Galvez Street.
