Revell Kit H662 (1976-77)
1/72 Scale
Battle of Midway Diorama
Features: F4F Wildcat & Mitsubishi Zero, 2 pilot figures and 2 American crew members.
This creation, although kitschy, assembled very well after sitting 45 years unopened on a hobby store shelf.
Painting:
First, I primed both planes with Tamiya spray can primer. After priming, I hand painted all remaining surfaces with Tamiya, Vallejo and Model Master acrylic paint. Finally, I applied one layer of Tamiya clear coat (spray can) after all decals had set.
Thanks for scrolling.
I build the models for my nephews and by request/commission.

Actually, Darth’s knuckles will be doing the communication.

Very nice. I’ve thought of getting into dioramas. But they take up so much space compared to displaying my builds on a shelf.
What will you build next? I have a Airfix 1:35 scale American M36 Tank Destroyer on my model desk right now….
I’ve finished the lower hull interior so far.

That’s awesome, well done. Getting into some WW2 modeling here soon as well.

Earth, can you briefly explain the size of some of the terrain specs (if you know?)
I understand the 1:35 scale reference perfectly, however, when I look at terrain and buildings, they come in different sizes in mm - 15mm, 28mm, etc.
Do you know the size of these terrain specs that match with something like a 1:35 tank?

If you want to get into armor, Tamiya is the walking dog. Just about any Tamiya tank kit is going to be a quality kit. The newer Airfix kits, like this one, are also quite good. I also like Dragon, but some of those can be a challenge. They tend to use individual track links, which takes a while to assemble and can be difficult. But the results are very realistic looking..

I have no idea. I’ve not really studied dioramas.

Darth is any US company still producing kits?

I think Revell is still American based. But I think their kits are made overseas. Lindbergh and Aurora have come back out. But their kits look really simple and cheaply made so I’ve not bought any. I’m not sure if they’re made in the US or not.

Awesome, thanks for the direction. I’ll check those out
I am wanting to make a scene from a small French town or something with a tank and some infantry near a small building, either intact or in ruins.
I’ll do some more digging and see what I can find so that the proportions are as good as I can make them.

You should find what you’re looking for. Google is very useful in finding such information.

Thanks. I’m an old tanker so I know a thing or two about what the interior of an armored vehicle looks like after it’s been in the field for a while.
