I don't know how many I've been in, never kept count. Zero came from me picking on someone, but I'm also not going to let someone constantly frick with me either. In childhood it was due to moving around a lot-Army-and being the new kid. In college it was due to 3 colleges in 30 miles and not being able to go anywhere without frats everywhere that want to start shite because they travel in packs.

You were asking earlier about a benefit of fighting. From personal observations, it stops bullying. Bullies like to talk a big game and look cool in front of people but they don't like getting hit.

So a kid confronts his bully one day. Bully beats the shite out of kid. Kid continues to get picked on but now other people are bullying him. This goes on for years. After years of abuse and teasing the kid kills himself. Bully continues to get pussy. Good for bully

That's worst case scenario. I've seen it play out differently. I guess living afraid is better than standing up for yourself.

I've hit two bullies like that (both in elementary school). Only times in my life I've thrown the first punch. Once standing up for someone else and once for myself. That was the end of the bullying.

In my experiences, this is typically what happens to bullies. They thrive on intimidation and fear. When someone actually steps up, they get put in their place. Then, they seem to STFU and leave people alone.

These kids fighting today are so much more violent. I was in fights in high school and witnessed many more. There was only one fight I ever saw where someone defenseless was kicked / punched.
We always fought till there was a clear winner and it was broke apart.
I had a much larger guy tackled me like that and get on top. Luckily his punches didn't have much power and I grabbed his head and pulled it down far enough to sink my teeth into his scalp. He got off me pretty quick.

Actually, Walt, I was a freshman and was punched in the back of the arm by a senior. It was the kind of punch that hurts all the way to your fingertips. I went at him and tackled him. I got a couple of good shots in before he beat my arse, but I earned a lot of respect. I never got hazed again. Apparently, bullies prefer prey that doesn't fight back.
