I just found this out in the last couple of years. First ancestor to come over came to Louisiana in 1718. Was actually a pretty common practice in Colonial Louisiana to have white wives and black concubines. The concubines could actually inherit a percentage of the man's property upon his death.
Was doing some research on Ancestry.com and got a notice in February (Black History Month) on "how to research my African American origins." I always wondered why I was a white boy with a fro. Questions answered.

I recently discovered that I have one black guy someone way back in my lineage.

Not surprising. I knew a "black creole" family that had two sons. One son identified as white and married a white woman and assimilated into white America, and one identified as black and married a black woman. So, their kids were first cousins but didn't really acknowledge each other because the "white side" was passé blanc.
