Wishbone offense

Doesn't matter. You could have Barry sanders, Jim brown, and Walter Payton back there and the wishbone wouldn't work in today's NFL.

Wishbone is a viable offense, but not with 100 million QB pitching / faking and getting laid out every play.

If you had someone to be the QB it could be a occasional goal line / short yardage package, but that is it. Even then you couldn't do it because of roster limitations.

To someone who’s never seen the single wing, believe me, it can be a thing of beauty… In college it’s been abandoned, and why I’ll never know, because it seems that some of those nifty running quarterbacks would be just right for the run-and-pass tailback duties…
In the pros, its drawbacks are obvious. Your passer couldn’t take the pounding.
“I’ve reflected on the single wing,” [Bill] Walsh says. “Those blocking schemes would just chew up NFL defenses. You could double-team every hole and trap at every hole. You’d have six men blocking three. Plus you’d have the power for the sweeps.
“Joe Montana might be able to play tailback, to run and pass, but you wouldn’t let him do it unless you had another Joe Montana to spell him…”
Bill Walsh on the Single Wing offense. Just because its not in the pros isnt a knock on the offense itself, its due to the poundings the QB would take, that being your highest paid player. Wont happen in modern era. It is seen as a package, we call it the wildcat with a RB or WR in the QB spot

Nothing wrong with the Wishbone. I was a big fan of it back in college. Kansas City even tried it in the pros. However, considering what you are paying for QBs and RBs these days, the risk for injury is just too high. Defenses are faster these days, yet if you had the right line and backs it would be possible. However, two things still stand out that prevent it. First, all fans are pass happy. Second, we go back to the issue of risk of injury to highly paid players.
