He's a RFA this year. When i mean feature, i mean our #1 back whole we all know will split carries with Reggie or whomever else. But there's no doubt he's our "man" back there when healthy.

In any case, we're going to have to make a decision on this young guy if we're going to give him a long term contract that makes him our #1 back or not. He's 25 and he's shown promise to be capable but hasn't quite put together the entire season package yet. Hasn't even rushed for 800 yards a season yet. Very versatile in the receiving/screen game.

Is he our back the next 5 years or will the Saints look to upgrade over the next season or so.

ETA: Also, how important of a season is this year for PT as well? We all keep saying how important of a year it'll be for Reggie but shouldnt' the heat be on PT to put together a season for us showing that he can be depended on for a full NFL season and put together some great totality numbers as our #1 back?

That all depends on Reggie. As long as Reggie is a Saint he is going to be hogging up most of the RB budget, so if Reggie isn't moved by the time Thomas is a UFA, I'd expect PT to get more money than the Saints will match.

PT will be 26 looking to get his biggest contract he'll ever be able to get.... he'd be dumb if he only took a 3 yr deal.

Feature? No. However he will be in the Committee for the next five years. As long as his carries do not get too high he should stay injury free and productive. Also, imo the best running back in the NFL who sets up the screen.

The deal may be for 5 or 6 years, but I just don't see him being a "feature back" for that long. But then again I could be wrong.

Don't take feature term too literally... we'll always have a committee but he is the leader of the committee IMO. He will want to get paid like the starter IMO especially with the money reggie gets/will get.

So you think PT will sign for 5 yrs for scrub money, not starting money?

Yea if what you mean is his role as it stands now...than yes...he will be the feature "guy" because he is a complete back. He should get starting money but not some ridiculous number because he should understand he is not the one and only guy in the backfield.

I think he is worth a five year deal...

I really think we are going to draft a running back in the middle-late rounds. I really hope Dixon falls to about the 4th but dont think that happens.

Don't think he will be here in 5 years. I think he has hit his prime and dont see him getting that much better. Only way for him to go is down and another 5 years in the NFL for a running back is a long time. Just to much of a beating.
