I was reading some game predictions, and a few people said something along the lines of a Rob Ryan defense is consistent at being inconsistent. This got me thinking, what exactly is Rob Ryan known for? He is not a pressure guy. He doesn't seem to be a cover guy. I guess he could be considered a scheme guy, but it seems our D is to stupid to understand his concepts.

This is the third game I watched where I felt like the D was playing a decent game, but still gave up over 27 points with no pressure. To me, it seems that due to the player's coach mentality of Rob, he has created an undisciplined defense that continues to make the dumbest of mental errors that never gets cleaned up. How do you scheme for the Panthers and not ALWAYS cover the only NFL grade receiving threat on their roster? How do you not know that Newton wants to run the bootleg, which he has done hundreds of times against us? Why do you keep rushing the same base 4 defenders when they aren't getting close to the QB?

There is a reason he can't keep a job anywhere.

if he spent less time destroying buffets, maybe he could actually coach the D

What it lacks in D-line pressure it makes up for with bad coverage.

I mean he's down his 3 of his biggest 4 money makers on D in Lewis, Byrd, and Junior.

I'm not sure what people expected of the defense with the talent it has. It kept us in the first 2 games and got a big stop yesterday

The youth will always struggle in man coverage in the nfl, and the lack of pass rush makes zone ineffective.

Who is worse at this point, Rob Ryan or Steve Spagnuolo?

This D has a chance to be A LOT better if we get Keenan and byrd going. I mean we're down 3 starting secondary players now. Anthony and Kikhaha have to get better quickly. Hicks can GFH.

I felt like the defense in weeks 1 and 2 played very solid regardless of the score.

This week...we got beat by a try to do it all QB and his only WR who is an average TE that just gets targeted a lot. This offense is the easiest we have had to matchup with yet...and they still scored way too many points on us.

Getting shown the door after impressive first year with team.

See history Rob Ryan's history

Raiders, Cleveland, Dallas, and now New Orleans.

Ryan makes an immediate impact on defense his first year but by year three the defense is left in more of a shamble than when he arrived.

I am also confused by what the hell we are running. We have 4-3 Players and unsuccessfully transitioned to 3-4. Brought in a few 3-4 defensive line players only to switch back to a 4-3. KiKaha maybe a great 3-4 OLB but he's playing 4-3 DE.

I'm tired of us changing DC's only to keep position coaches.

Yeah, yesterday was the first time this season that I thought Ryan did a bad job. Considering the injuries, our secondary is playing fairly well. Hawthorne and (somewhat understandably) Anthony are clueless at LB and we only have one DL that can get after the QB. They'll be playing better in the second half of the season when we get Lewis and Byrd back.

His defenses always start really good.... Then the swift decline.... Then it levels out at "turrbul turrbul turrbul."

So we probably should have only kept him for one year then?

He's a scheme guy like his dad and Rex. They all run similar defenses. Rex has had far better defensive players though (his teams have had terrible offenses though, FWIW). Rob has been on teams with expensive offenses and shite defenses, like ours is now until our injured players come back

our defense surprised me the first two games, but they let me down against Carolina.

But still, I think they're better than last year. We are still missing Ellerbe, Lewis and Byrd. Once they get back we will only get better. I think we have some potential to have a good D, despite Rob.

Starting out like gangbusters because of his rah-rah attitude (just like Rex), and then becoming what they really are, which is usually terrible

All I know is that I had a very good friend working at Valley Ranch when Ryan was the Cowboys DC. Here's his impression; drove a leisure van to work every day that looked like a bunch of hippies lived in it, smelled like he took a shower once a week, profane to the max, and a blowhard like his brother who feels like empty bluster is the answer to everything.

He wore real thin, real fast with Dallas and they weren't exactly tearing it up when he was there. I can't understand why SP hired the undisciplined slob in the first place, much less keeping him on in the 3rd year. Even Jerry Jones was smarter than that.
