We can easily make a run next year.

1) We have a solid defensive core that has been banged up this year along with some promising young players in Rankins and Bell.
2) we're gonna have so much cap space next year. Sure, I'm terrified of us dishing out another Byrd contract or two, but we have potential to fill some holes on defense there. Maybe even add some O line help.
3) Even with all our injuries and 30M in dead money, we've been competitive in every game except that MNF game against the Falcons where we were missing like half of our starters on defense.
The next couple of years are bright imo

Agreed. The defense IMO will be fine with the core we have. Honestly, the offense and its ability to not turn the ball over continue to be the weakest point on this team.
And also if if we can figure out how the he'll to stop getting kicks blocked that'd be great. Its led to three direct losses this year, which is crazy to think about.

I know we are all down after last night but I totally agree. Expect the Saints to spend some big money to shore up some positions and make one last push next year for the Super Bowl.

I see we've moved into the "next year's our year" phase of the season.

You make a good point, but I'm a delusional, optimistic Saints fan. I think all their problems are now fixed. 10-6. Maybe 9-7.
I'm going down with the ship.

If you look at the roster it's pretty decent from a talent standpoint.
Your only MUST HAVES are at LB, DE and G.
For all the bitching and moaning about Peat being a bust, he's actually pretty damn good.
Keep this in mind. The team was absolutely devastated by injuries at CB, lost Kikaha and Rankins (who is looking really good), and arguably our 2nd best players on both sides of the ball have barely played (Armstead/Breaux).
They are in every game and if they had a decent ST coach we're probably in the playoffs.
This year remains me of 2008 in a lot of ways.
Somehow, some way get an edge rusher, pray that Kikaha has something left, draft/sign some LBs with speed and an OG and we're onto something.
CB is no longer a major need. Breaux, Williams, Swann, Crawley, re-sign Moore and Webb and you have ample talent there.
DT is great if you re-sign Fairley.
Just need LB depth. Robertson, Ellerbe and Stupar are all decent but Anthony (shaking my head). Need a difference maker on the outside.
Offense is set minus a G and someone to groom to take over for Strief.

Yep. Just need a little bit of luck WRT injuries.

It's more in response to people freaking out over the state of this franchise
