From today. Some insightful stuff.

LINK

High level:
- Likes this draft. Lesser # of Juniors means they're ahead on evals.
- Feels like they'll be fine without Cody Rager
- Really likes our draft class from last year, says Coaches had glowing things to say after the year
- They will adjust to certain player styles based on the OC hire
- Says they're willing to look at different sized players at some positions including Lighter LBs (he said 220lb range) and DEs ("still want power but open to lighter guys")

He was all over the place when discussing Penning. Could be an inside guy or outside guy; could play left side or right side.

Yikes!!

Well, He's not a coach and he did say those are decisions for the coach to make. I took it from his scouting perspective Penning has shown an ability to possibly be developed in any of those areas.

We took him number 19 in the first round. He makes it sound like a guy we took in the 6th round or practice squad.

I think you're reading too much into it. We're all disappointed in Pennings development but it's not like it's something that's never happened before in the history of drafts.

thought that tackles won their one-on-ones today and people are not used to seeing here.

typically, it's the other way around where the D-line stands out.

Penning’s only really hope is playing RT. He can’t move enough to play inside as much as we pull with guards.

Besides, what we did vs what we will do aren't necessarily the same.

Well it's not exactly the same comapirison but if you mean have I ever hired someone that came in and was a total screw off and didn't produce the type of work I was expecting them to when I interviewed them? Absolutely, but nothing in their interview suggested that they would turn out to be who they were. If it had I wouldn't have hired them. I think that is maybe a more realistic scenario of the drafting of Penning at this point. (Although, I do not believe he is a screw off and not trying. I believe he has just been overwhelmed by the transition to the NFL which was not helped by his injuries.)
