Majority Whip Steve Scalise said the Steve Gleason Act will ensure that people with disabilities have more opportunities when they seek treatments, cures and independence. The bill, known as the Steve Gleason Act of 2015, was sponsored by Sen. David Vitter and other co-sponsors.

“This is a huge victory for ALS patients across the country. Making this equipment more accessible and affordable will give them the ability to communicate with their family and friends – even literally giving them a voice when they lose their ability to speak,” Vitter said. “Steve and the rest of Team Gleason have been an incredible inspiration. Thanks to their tireless work, we’ll be able change the lives of ALS patients and their families.”

Supporters say the amendment will bring relief to patients who have been denied access to speech-generating devices via Medicare and Medicaid. The legislation will also ensure that eye tracking and "gaze interaction accessories" are covered under Medicare for ALS patients with demonstrated medical needs.

and "Caitlyn Jenner" is considered a hero in this country.

Gleason is the epitome of the word and will go down as one of the best Saints in the history of our franchise.

Great cause, love the gal and all the work he has done, but ALS affects such a small minority of folks (doesnt mean it doesnt need $, donations, research, or etc). Parts of me feel like that legislation could be used for more chronic diseases that pledge our society, such as the metabolic syndrome diseases

Judging by the bills main backers:
Team FrateTrain (Pete Frates’, advocacy organization)
ALS Association
American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA)
The Center for Medicare Advocacy
American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA),
United Spinal Association
Team Gleason (Steve Gleason’s advocacy organization)

Speech generating devices are used by people with ALS, Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, Rett Syndrome, spinal cord injuries, spinal muscular atrophy etc.

Although, I do agree that more medicare reforms are necessary.
