then why did they let him go in the first place? It wasn’t performance. Also why do they keep restructuring older players and keeping them longer?

our terrible pass rush is real.

I wonder if not being able to add players because of cap issues is a factor.

Well, they had used assets to draft DE's so, they had to dump the project that worked out.

Its not a question of can. Any team can add whomever they want under the cap using the tools provided by the league and union. Its a matter of should/want.

Chase You g and Trey Hendrickson would immediately upgrade us from worst to first in pass rush.

In other words they opted for cheaper though unproven players? Why would you do that if the cap is “make believe”.

When you have to resort to silly semantics games it indicates you don’t have a good argument. Most of you confuse the fact they are cap complainant on the required date with the cap being “make believe” or because it always goes up. They get under the cap by restructuring and extending contracts on already old players. Were they to just cut certain players or if someone like Ram retired they would have a large cap hit. That would be money for a player not on the team, that does limit their ability to make moves and improve the roster whether you believe it or not.

I don't think I said it was make believe. I'm saying they manipulate it to do what they want. There are well documented consequences to doing that.

But I don't think Trey was a cap casualty in the "we don't have space" sense.

They drafted Davenport (we know what he cost) and figured to draft a DE in 2021 because they would be cheaper (Payton Turner, yikes). WIth all that said, he only had 1 good year of production. Sure, we have 3 years of proof that this was the wrong move, now.

There’s rumors Hendrickson has an “acquired” personality that rubs some the wrong way but I always lived him because he played balls to the wall every snap. I’d love him and Young together.

It was another poster, i assumed the same person was replying to me apologies. But the point stands, they let Hendrickson go because they did not have the cap room.

No one can keep everyone no matter how well they manage the cap so I suppose it’s possible they would have let him go even if they had the room since they had drafted Davenport.

But to the topic of this thread, they don’t have the cap space now and bringing in an expensive 29 yo who wants a longer deal would be a terrible move.
