Do you think Payton might try to develop him as a Sproles type hybrid player? He was very successful running the ball in college, and he has the quicks to be a threat receiving out of the backfield. He's short like Sproles, so he could be hard to pick out in the chaos of the play like the little waterbug was. Or is he just destined to always be a 4th-5th string WR and return man?

Not like we use Cadet as a running threat anyways

Lewis is kind of similiar to Sproles in stature, he is just a little less stocky. Sproles is 5'6 190, Lewis is 5'7 168. If he can put a little meat on those bones I'm sure he could be a similar player.

Was he hurt this week? Why was he inactive?

I think he will have to. The kid plays with a high motor and the locker room absolutely loves him. Peyton actually tried to cut him in training camp but faced a mutiny from the team if he went forward with it. The guy has every immeasurable going for him that he could possibly have, so I think the sky is the limit on his development into a more complete football player.

Sproles is strong as frick and plays like he's the same size as the defense.

I doubt Lewis will ever get anywhere close to that.

Gonna need a link to that one. He came under recommendation from Parcells, and i don't think Payton is taking player feedback in building his roster

I don't agree with a Sproles comparison. Sproles' leg strength is what negates his size deficiency at the NFL level. He is built like a small horse and can handle an NFL workload.

Tommylee is not built the same way. I think he has gamebreaking ability and should have a role/package in the offense that utilizes his ability to move in space and separate from defenders. However his touches would have to be monitored and kept low.

I like the idea of him being a passing down back so defenders can't press him at the line of scrimmage before he hits full speed...I just can't see a situation where he offers any upside rushing the ball at his size.

Tommylee is more like Cooks than Sproles. Sproles was shifty where Lewis and Cooks have more straight line speed. And Sproles is a RB where Cooks and Lewis are WRs.

And people underestimate how good Sproles was/is. He was fifth in the Heisman running out of Kansas State. Tommylee Lewis isn't in his stratosphere.

People always sell Sproles short.

He is a hall of famer trapped in a practice squad players body.

It was in an interview Sean Peyton was giving. I'll see if I can find it.

Yea, I think Tommylee Lewis would get killed playing RB. I would like to see him get some designed plays to get him the ball in space. He's a playmaker and would produce if put in the right situation. Giving him a bunch of carries would likely result in him getting hurt or fumbling imo.

Well that's an awesome story if true.

Not sure why Murphy has a roster spot

Murphy and Lewis were both inactive for the 49ers game. I'm ready to trade Murphy to the Patriots for a conditional 6th round pick and a cup o' joe. PR/KR has to be a priority at some point in the offseason.

I don't even think we could get a cup o'joe for Murphy. I'd like to see us find a legit PR/KR in the offseason as well. It was supposed to be Murphy, but that was a failed experiment...not a big deal though, b/c all it cost us was a 7th rounder.
