He has said that he does not want to retire since moving on from the Giants. What would be your thoughts if the Saints traded Payton to New York for a 1st rounder and hired Coughlin?

He has two Super Bowl rings and a track record of making more with less. He's a future Hall of Famer with some good years still left in him in my opinion.

The Giants have the 10th pick. I would do that.

Look, if I'm the Saints I'm really wanting to keep Sean Payton. And if Sean Payton wants to talk to other teams he can. In that instance, and if I'm the Saints, I'm asking for a lot.

The problem with overbidding is scaring off other teams. While that sounds great on the surface you have a malcontent coaching your team.

If Sean REALLY does not to be here i dont want to be desperate enough to hold him hostage.

I really want him to stay but if he does not then take a second and be done with it.

I just dont like that its been put out there that they'd be happy with a 2nd. Kind of lowballed ourselves.

Considering he got fired means no trading we could just hire him which means we would fire payton which means we wouldn't get anything for him

So no

if he wasn't so old I wouldn't mind.

The Giants seemed like they couldn't ever win the close games this year.

good bit of their losses where by 3 points or less.

Payton... I don't mind if he stays but if he does he needs to make some changes on the staff.

I would find it hard to believe that by just hiring a new DC and retaining everybody else would a difference. Maybe for the first few games the D would look better but once teams adjusted... then what?

we've seen 2 top quality defenses in his time in New Orleans (2010, 2013).

'09 Defense caused a huge amount of turnovers and even cashed a handful for TD's themselves. But even that year we were weak stopping the run.

Just haven't really been all that good up front in a long time save for 2 seasons. People always trash the secondary but they rarely get any help from the line who don't really get pressure or who aren't all that good stopping the run.

What top coach would come to this organization? The team is rebuilding. The QB is great but has three years tops on a rebuilding team. The team is cash strapped because of bad contracts. To top that you can't even tell him who will own the team next year. Either SP stays or we get a 1 year coach.
