I think Vilma and Smith get cut, but I'm not sure about Harper.

I said it in another thread, but I just don't see us restructuring Harper. Look at the players we have restructured. These are players that the team plan to keep around for a while, and have no problem pushing their money back to future years (for example this year: Lofton, Bunkley, Hawthorne, and Colston). Why would the Saints push back some of Harper's salary to future years if they are considering cutting him? I don't see him taking a pay cut either, why would he agree to that?

I see them drafting his replacement this year, and allowing both of them to be on the roster to allow for some time to develop. I still think Harper is an above average strong safety. He's not worth what he is being paid, but still I think he will shine this year in the Ryan 3-4.

In fairness to Harper he was asked to do things we all know he can't last season. He is good attacking the line of scrimmage.

He's right. There has to be some sense of continuity, especially if there are players picked up in the draft at the DE and Safety positions. Smith is old but he is the most veteran DE on the roster, he'll have intangible assets to bring to the table.

Like I said earlier, I really think Safety is one of the positions drafted this year. Harper is flawed in coverage, but he brings a lot to the table in sniffing out the run. In 2010/2011, wasn't Roman Harper one of the best safeties in the NFL in tackles behind the LOS and in QB sacks? That is an asset, and will be even more valuable in the new 3-4.

I'd rather the new safety learn from him than M. Jenkins. It seems the only skill he has is to run really fast when he blows his coverage on the play action.

Yea it would be a stretch to expect him to know his assignments, and not run with lead in his arse.

The breakdown of the defense starts with the front and works its way backwards. How do you know his assignments? Did you have the playbook? The ones where he played zone he seemed to do pretty well. There aren't many Strong Safeties in the NFL that can cover speedy WRs in man-to-man.

He was at least in the right position to make plays. Unlike Jenkins, who looked like a dog being teased by his owner when he pretends to throw a ball.

I would rate Jenkins and Harper as the worst pair of starting safties in the league. How CSP has them rated we will see shortly.
Would like a reduced contract for Vilma and a chance to compete for a role on the team.
Same for Smith.

Nobody knew their assignments in Spags defense. They all looked lost. Harper was productive previously and has things he can do well.

I understand that I have to look at the back of Harpers jersey every Sunday as the other teams wide receivers are running in the end zone. And I agree Jenkins sucks too

If you lump them together, statistically, yes. Harper made good decisions last year, and played about average. I don't care what the refs said in the Tampa Bay game, that was an interception and a damn good catch for Harper.

Also, we were decimated at the OLB position. When your OLBs can't tackle, the safeties have to compensate. When they do, they get burned on the pass. It was a rough year last year, and it wasn't just one thing.
