Brandin Cooks is a speedster, Fred B. award winning wide receiver from Oregon state. He has blazing speed but is small at 5'9 and has not made an impact this season.
The argument is he is not producing because we are sending him on deep routes and he's getting double covered every game.
What would be a solution? Do we put him in the slot where he could do a lot of damage down low, but then we would have no deep threat.

I think he's been good. Maybe the production hasn't been there for him on the outside, but I feel like he could be an even more dynamic version of Julian Edelmen if used in the slot. So that's my vote.

He requires double team attention. His stats are actually reflected in his ability to create better looks for everyone else. It sucks if he is on your FF team but the offense definitely benefits from him being on the field.

Honestly, I think the injury to Drew hurt his stock a bit. Drew is getting healthier and his targets and yards and production are going up. I see him getting more solid numbers here on out.

I predicted he would go 100 rec for 1,475 yards. I still think he can get close to that but more like 90 rec for 1,200 yards.

Brandin Cooks will be a very solid WR when/if we get a legit WR1. I think he will really hit his stride in a year or two. Looking back, he probably wasn't worth where we took him. But it wasn't a bust pick either. Kinda like how Reggie Bush was okay for us but wasn't worth the #2 pick (that isn't considering the excitement Bush brought to New Orleans post Katrina)

He is a baller, but not a number 1 WR. And was a reach in the draft. The guy just cannot consistently get open. We need a true number 1 to take pressure off of him.

I have to wonder what the perception of him would be if Brees wasn't injured vs Tampa or McCown puts the ball in the back of the endzone

You should always try and take away the #1 threat on the other team. Our WR corp is not very deep so take away Cooks and make the others beat you.

Sounds good any way

He's just misused to a point. He gets open well on downfield routes, but he's not good on short passes(screens). He's afraid to get hit and doesn't use his acceleration like he should.

This is a big problem IMHO. Since he got injured last year he doesn't fight for balls. The great WRs fight for the football. If it's not on the money, Cooks isn't making the catch.

I think he's a damn good WR. A legit #2 at this point. The only 2 knocks on him are that he's short(not exactly something he can change) and the fact that he goes down too easily. Hopefully he can correct that eventually.

He just seems so stiff and tight. Like more like Devery instead of say, Randall Cobbish

Dude needs to roll out, work on his mobility, do some yoga, improve his route tree

This is going to sound rah rah and and overly subjective, but in spite of his route running, hands, speed, Brees raving about him, etc., he just doesn't seem to be a natural football player. I'm not sure how much Treadwell or Doctson can help him if he's a one-trick pony that simply relies on burning players deep.

That would be pretty different from how he was in college.

Or last year, for that matter.

I don't know but Ben Watson has more catches for 20 or more yards than Cooks does. I read that some where and can't post a link from my phone.

i doubt it isn't by much but still that can't be good.

but heck, Watson has the most receiving TD's on the team so there is that too.

Cooks is getting his targets though so we can't blame lack of opportunities.

I agree that that doesn't make sense for a 5'10" guy that wins the Biletnikoff, but that's just how it seems to me. Goes down too easy, and aside from a couple of jet sweeps, he's not as dynamic of a player as I had hoped when we drafted him.

He gets gobbled up by tacklers way too much for someone who was supposed to be an agile, extremely fast receiver. He doesn't look like he's afraid to get hit, he looks like he's more interested in protecting himself. I can't fault him for that.

But we need to see some more effort on balls that aren't perfect.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed with his play this season.

He's not playing up to expectations.
Hell, he's not even playing like he did in his rookie season.
