I actually thought he looked really good as a straight up RB this past Sunday... on a day when not much looked very good.

For some reason, Payton has been in love with Murphy since the minute we drafted him. I recall him talking him up about how special he was and how important a pick it was for the team. I was surprised to hear that about a 7th rounder that many did not think would be drafted.

I thought Sammuel (#11) was the better returner of the 2. He had some nice returns at the end of last season.

I think it's really three things: First, he can return kick offs. Second, Spiller looks like he might miss some time, and third, we invested a draft pick on him.
Who else returns kicks? Saunders has no value to us other than return man and he he's too small to even cover kicks, IMO. Murphy is a little more versatile.

Murphy is everything Payton wanted Cadet to be and then some. If Spiller is hurt, he fits the 3 down back/2 minute role nicely. I would be thrilled if I were Payton to have grabbed him in the 7th.
