Right after the announcement that their newest Saint needed neck surgery the sycophantic supplicants to the Loomis mafia were given their orders. What they leave out is problem two with the Chase Young signing and that is who else can they sign after the draft and free agency if he cannot play?

Nick Underhill Twitter

quote:

The Saints have injury protections in Chase Young’s contract that offer some cover if he misses time, I’m told. He’s expected to be ready for the season, so the hope is those never come into play.

Chris Rosvoglou Twitter

quote:

Chase Young's deal with the Saints truly is a low-risk, high-reward move.

If he recovers from his neck injury and balls out, awesome. If not, he's not on the roster in 2025.

Mike Triplett Twitter

quote:

$7.99M of Young’s $13M deal will come in form of per-game bonuses – a structure built around his neck surgery that is expected to sideline him into training camp.

Obviously not as ideal as a fully-healthy Young, and Saints would be happy to pay full price. But protected if not.

Jeff Nowak Twitter

quote:

Folks will overreact to the $13M number, but this is a really safe deal for the Saints when you break it down. Chase Young has, literally, every incentive to get on the field as quickly as possible.

Not so much about Young. The risk/reward is not bad with the numbers but if they do not draft or sign someone else it could be an issue.

More about what followers the Saints media is compared to other cities where they are not servants to team leadership.

the details weren't made public at the time of the signing.

Look, I'm no sunshine pumper, but I'm not against this contract that they signed him too.

What is a shame is that they'll likely part ways with a player who they invested in via the draft. Payton Turner could be that guy if they don't want to carry 6 DE's. If they do then another roster spot is lost at a another position.

Is that necessary?

It's a Rams/Pats move

Take a flyer on a guy with a big time pedigree but injury concerns.. he plays for you, balls out (fingers crossed), then signs somewhere else next year..

And you get a compensatory pick for him

Seems like you should wait for the draft to be mad about them not drafting someone who can play if Young is injured.

Thus the world COULD. THe original post was more about the so called reporters quicker to defend the Loomis mafia than report on it.

They're explaining a fairly big difference from what was originally reported about the deal. You just want to be mad.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this deal. If he cannot play, all they are out is $5 Million. If he plays, its $13 Million that is off the books after this season. This neck issue is something he's apparently had since college that was only diagnosed last season, so if they can fix that and he can be anything like he was his rookie year, they got a bargain.

You know it is possible for this organization to make a move without it being part of some grand conspiracy by Mickey Loomis to purposely suck.

I don’t see anything they said as being that wild.
They seem reasonable

I honestly cannot understand what the point of this post you made is, or what you are angry about?

What specific kind of neck surgery is it?

Scared money don't make money.

But you are completely right about the press corp.

I still like the signing and the contract.

Newsflash, every team has media servants, local and national. Doesn't make them wrong.

Yup. And if this were a city of say 3 to 15 million people you would get more varied media than one could stomach lol.

The 8m in game bonuses isn't on the cap, and usually in cases like this they are considered not likely to be earned (whether they are or aren't doesn't matter, when something is dependent on an outcome likely or not, it's usually considered unlikely for cap purposes), meaning any money from that he does earn goes on next year's cap.

So at most we are only on the hook for $5 mil, but I don't know how much of that is even fully guaranteed.
