Since you don't know what a die hard fan is, I will inform you.

A dies hard fan is a fan who lives and dies with his team.

Since your friend Danny Douchebag roots for Alabama #1, he cannot live and die with LSU.

If you root against LSU in even one game, you are not a die hard fan.

Please go back to the Rant where you belong.

Pro sports is different. Everyone is playing for the exact same goal under equal rules. To me it's traitorous to have a second pro team. Taking the Hornets as an example, it pisses me off that alot of Rockets fans in NOLA I know root for both the Rockets and Hornets. I was raised a Rockets fan and I'll never root for the Hornets.

I think it's ok to have a second favorite pro team. Hell in Missouri A LOT of people pull for the Royals and Cards because one is in the AL and another in the NL. Plus Pro teams holds cities and states hostage and threaten to move if they don't get new Stadiums. I can remember not too long ago people HATED Tom Benson and he even wanted to move the damn team. Don't expect all Saints fans to be loyal to the team when not too long ago the owner was considering moving the team.

so he should make an absolutely stupid financial decision to go to bama for something as silly as the fan police?

no he should root for the school HE goes to first, no matter what reason he went there.

I think it's fine too, provided that they aren't in the same conference

it's not like the Texans and the Saints ever play each other anyway

what one did you attend longer/get a degree from?

If you go to Bama for 3 years and finish at LSU, OK, but if you only go to LSU, you should root for LSU over Bama otherwise you are a douchebag.

i think this is insane

sometimes it attaches, like with me

many times it doesn't

in today's world of higher education, your college is a commodity

i'd say if you're going this route, then it would have to be division. you play them twice every year

exactly, that's why I was glad they put the Texans in the AFC.

I wish the Hornets were still in the East. We moved to Houston after the Jazz left so I became a Rockets fan, if the Rockets are out I hop the Hornets do well, mostly for my friends that are Hornets fans.

I am a Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams fan and have been since 1967.

I've never jumped off the bandwagon.

I'm happy to see the Saints do well and they are becoming my second-favorite team. Having a daughter at Tulane helps the connection.

Yet, I cannot in good conscience "jump on the bandwagon."

Today belongs to the diehard fans who have rooted for the Saints through thick and thin over the years and decades.

This is not my time in the sun though I'll be smiling if the Saints finally go to the Superbowl--more of a "Louisiana" thing with me than all of a sudden claiming to be a Saints fan.

There.

Does that pass muster with you folks?

you thinks its insane to have loyalty to something you are a part of simply because your parents were a part of something else? Cut the umbilical cord already.

If I have kids and they go to Texas or A&M, I'd expect them to root for those schools over LSU. Unlike others I'm fine with the concept of have 2nd favorites, but you should be loyal to your school first or you are a douchebag.

And on the subject of college fandom:

I don't think grad school counts for much.

I'll be getting my masters at the University of Texas.

I don't think that will all of a sudden make me a Longhorns fan.

Damn you are a TRUE fan. Have the GIANTS and JETS up there and you still pull for the SAINTS. I know those fans up there are passionate, I bet it's fun to go to either of those games.

I grew up on Bossier City/Benton La. I am not an NFL fan, though I once was. I only watch 3-4 regular season games a year, all Saints games. Where I live, we only get the Seachickens or some other West coast team and I am not enough of an NFL fan to undure that

But, as kid I was a die hard NFLer. Didn't have a tv, so it was all radio. I remember Abromowitz, Manning, Dempsey, Kilmer even...dialing into that little radio on Sundays. Today is like heaven to me, don't know about others but I am in high heaven. This area has a lot of Viqueens fans and Packer fans, people move here from the upper great lakes area but today Juneau is pulling for the Saints. Everyone loves the Saints.

Today, all that frustration from listening to Archie run for his life on that little transistor, the bag days of the aints and 40 years of frustration are now well worth it.

When I was a teen, I hauled hay for Terry Bradshaw. Also used to catch passes for him and Joe Ferguson after school when they worked out. I am proud to be a Lousianian today here in Alaska.

Well Kafka, you do have to understand this game and this season may MAKE people die-hard fans of the Saints.

People have to start somewhere.

But I share your contempt of people who jump aboard when a team is winning and jump back off when they slip a bit.

Being an LSU fan is like a committed marriage--at times you're angry, at times you're frustrated, but at no time do you even think of leaving. You can't.

I have nothing but contempt for the douches up this way who were wearing Nebraska and Florida State jerseys in the mid-nineties and then became LSU fans in 2003 and now are wearing Texas jerseys.

Don't count it out. I was Mr. LSU diehard after the 03 season and I became an FSU fan right away. Same thing for most of my FSU friends from Penn State, Michigan, USC, etc.
