Yeah and Graham and Ingram were so dependable in that game, they both need to go as well.

While he normally says little of importance. during the pregame segment before the Seattle playoff game, Hokie Gajan commented that he didn't think PT was really hurt, but that the Saints thought their other rbs were better, and that the injury claim was a ruse to shield PT from criticism. Frankly, it wouldn't bother me if PT and Graham both left. I love what PT did for the Saints, but the team needs to improve at rb. Graham isn't worth the money he's commanding, and if they can pick up two nice draft picks in exchange for him, let him go.

For perhaps the first time ever, I agree with you.

I'm getting tired of reading stuff like this. People don't understand that pro sports markets are not quite the same as other markets, especially in an environment like the NFL which has artificial constraints on wages to go along with short careers for labor.

Would you rather this:
He might be worth what he he wants but the saints should not pay him that as they cannot afford it and it is not worth it to them. We have some rookies that will need contracts soon, an oline issue, a corner issue, and with our propensity to back load contracts a large contract will frick us because he's 28 and if we give him a 5 year deal well end up with a. 32 year old Jimmy raping our cap space.
worth the money according to the market? Yes.
Worth the money according to the saints check books and needs and future? No.
If we can trade him for picks to infuse youth into this team and maybe pick up a proven starter at a position of need then we should do that.

You can't cut all these players and expect to maintain a playoff caliber team
What in the...
Sproles/Moore are up in age and we can get younger/cheaper and most importantly better options in the Draft/FA
Smith barely played a down and had to go. Harper's issues are well documented. Greer will probably retire due to his injury.
None of those guys(except MAYBE sproles) are worth keeping around anymore when we have better options.
Your chicken littling is frankly absurd
And please stop being a pussy and ban yourself for life when the saints have 4 wins in early/mid OCT

Exactly who is the big loss here?
Most are older. The Saints finally have a defense and none of those cuts will hurt.. and as long as Brees is the QB and Sean Payton in the coach the Saints are absolutely a playoff caliber team.
You realize since 2006 when Payton and Brees joined the Saints no other team has more wins (excluding the year Payton was absent).. IN THE ENTIRE NFL..

If Graham signs the franchise tender, then he isn't necessarily on our books when he's 32. Even if he signs a multiyear deal, there are ways to avoid the major cap hit in year five or six or whatever.
There is nothing wrong with backloading contracts. In fact, it's the smart move in this market.
Now regarding a trade for picks, sure that would be great. But the issue is that trades require another team willing to trade. And what's to say that we don't sign him and then trade him at a later date?

My position which will not change is that we have at least 2 needs to take care of before giving Graham a shite load of money.
We aren't debating his worth on the open market or his skills or any of that.
We are discussing the business side of things. I said before I think he's worth around 7 mil. I can understand around 8 mil.
Anything over that and he isn't worth it to the organization until all of our other needs are met and then we can deal with him.

Why would bitching and moaning surprise anyone? Every other post on TD is bitching and moaning.
Fans that know football recognize those moves needed to be made. Casual fan says "who is gonna do TD dances now!? Did they forget the two point conversion 4 years ago!?"

You're right. I keep forgetting it was 8 mil. When this story started before the cap stuff it was something like 7. Adjust my numbers up a million and the point remains the same.
He's worth the tag probably. I can see them paying him about a mil more. Anything more than that is stupid at this point.
