He's a fighter for sure. I literally cried that day in September 2011 when he had to be helped onto the field before the Texans game. I was stunned at how progressed the disease was already.

i dont remember what the typical prognosis is with ALS, what, less than a year?

3-5 years, as I recall.
But there are varying types.

Physicist Stephen Hawking was diagnosed at age 21 and given 2 years. He is now 73 years old. His case, however is a slow progressing form of ALS. So I guess anything can happen. Congratulation on the award. Very well deserved. God Bless a Great Man.
