Winston was very "Breesesque"... He hit 6 different receivers on those drives.

Thomas
Landry
Kamara
Harty
Olave
Johnson

Yea that's cool, but I can't imagine a scenario where Brees would think spiking the ball with 24 seconds left is a good idea.

If the plan was to not run another play and kick it now (which is dumb), then at least let it run to 3 seconds in case you make it. The last falcons drive should have never happened.

Winston is too experienced to not know this.

That’s fair. But let’s at least point out that the refs’ ineptitude played a big role in a poorly managed situation.

Yep, it was a rush situation, officials should've let them know the clock stopped.

I agree it wasn’t the best decision, but let’s not pretend that Brees hasn’t made 5-10 boneheaded time/clock decisions over the years.

I'd never think Tom Brady would forget what down it is but this still happened (and this actually cost them the game too):

totally different plays. The first spike at 39 seconds (The intentional grounding) was forgivable. Everyone thought the clock was running. The second one was dumb.

That’s ridiculous. You act like there is a week between plays. Jameis is busting his arse to get to the new line of scrimmage 40 yards downfield because he sees Landry sprinting to give the ball to the linesman. Then he has to figure out exactly what the hell happened and what penalty was called by the referee (which had to be very confusing since he, like everyone else though the clock was running); and then he has to get a play called, get the team lined up and get us back in field goal position, which he did by throwing a dart to Johnson. Can’t imagine how he could have been confused in that clusterfrick of a situation, which was largely caused by the refs ineptitude. Some of you people are insufferable.

Stop.... when has Brees ever had -6 yards in the first 2 quarters. You are tainting that man's legacy by mentioning winston in the same sentence as Brees.

But you didnt see it right? You turned it off to go do yard work before the 4th quarter magic even happened

I don’t know how many times I have to say it again. It’s like you’re just not reading what I’m writing. See my comment right above yours. We’re not talking about the spike that was called intentional grounding. It was the second spike with 24 seconds remaining. If you’re gonna spike the ball to kick it to win the game, then wait until there’s no time left. If you think that requires a genius to figure out real-time, then my condolences to you.

I’d have to rewatch but is this the second spike? They should’ve taken a shot at the end zone instead of spiking it there but a lot was going on

I’m not even mad at the spike because if we are tackled short of the first, we are fricked. If we get the first, we may not have enough time to spike it.

Not bleeding the clock was the issue, but given all of the stuff going on, I see why it went down the way it did. That series was fricky.

Running another play is debatable. But in my opinion if you’ve decided that you’re going to kick the ball here with your last play. And it is your last play, because it’s going to be fourth down, then leaving 24 seconds on the clock is absolutely inexcusable. There’s no reason that Atlanta should’ve had the chance to kick a field goal of their own, Or at the very least should have had to have burned a time out themselves
