I wonder how many much boot licking he will force out of the front office now? We have to accept his demands no matter what.

This is not an not anti Brees post. I just don't understand our front office. I do hate it how everyone calls him "mr. team player", knowing full well he has no interest in a team friendly deal.

What do you mean what.

Brees is our only QB option and he and the team are negotiating an extension.

Team Brees has all of the leverage

Trade him to Jets for Mo Wilkerson, next years 1st, and this years 4th. Use the 4th on Connor Cook.

That was what I was getting at.

Why now? Did he think we were drafting a QB or something?

No. But it was an option up to this point.

The deal needed to be done prior to the draft.

Not really. Brees always had leverage. The only leverage the Saints have is that he is old.

No agent worth a damn representing someone on the level of Drew Brees was ever going to give a damn about the threat of the team drafting a QB. That had 0 impact.

Why didn't Drew give up some of his money in his renegotiations to go get a stud free agent OG to protect him???

Gotta agree with Lester.

You are a moron if you think he didn't Allways hold all the cards.

Plus, are you suggesting we should have drafted a rookie QB to put pressure on Drew? LOLOLOLOLOL

Why don't you send in a check to help out? You know, I little bonus for Drew. Take some of the pressure off the salary cap........

ETA: absolutely appropriate name. What a MOOK.

There are options for trade next year.
There will be free agents.
There will be QBs to draft next year.

It is not a foregone conclusion that Brees has to be back next year.

He will be 37 at free agency next year. He would maybe just maybe get a 3 year deal from some team next year
Believe it how you want, the Saints have more options than he does at this point. If he doesn't sign a new deal, they could just decide to move on from him. Extending him for more cap space it really pointless now too. The Saints don't even have to get back to the table to make a deal anymore. They still have the cards.

All I know is that if he retires with only 1 SuperBowl win as a Saint I will hate him forever because he could have given us more. Damn your greed Drew Brees, after 40 years of futility you gave us more than we ever realistically thought we'd get, but it just wasn't enough. I hate you and hope you DIAF for only giving us 1 SuperBowl.

Seriously, what is wrong with some of you people. Let's say you worked at a tech startup that blew up. You don't need to work there for the money, you work there because you like the work you do, and they come to you and ask if you'd give back $10 million of your stock options so they can add a new department that will help your department make even more money for the company and give you a 10% better chance at your 2nd industry award. Would you give up $10 million for that? If you say yes you either really want that 2nd industry award, and some people do, or you're lying. Most people would say "That's my money, I have a family to feed!" And that doesn't make them bad or greedy, it makes them normal.

Look at how much money winning the SuperBowl has made Benson. The salary cap conveniently shields him from criticism about not sacrificing more for winning. Maybe Brees salary wouldn't be a problem if Benson had fought the league harder on BountyGate and kept our draft picks, or maybe if he wasn't so loyal to Loomis he'd have seen change needed to be made sooner, we'd have drafted better and not made such HUGE FA mistakes that have left a crazy amount of dead money on the cap. But Brees' greed for wanting to be paid his market value is the problem here
