#Saints QB Drew Brees (plantar fasciitis) said this week he was playing, and nothing changed that. Source: "Not sure how he’s walking."

Saints' QB Drew Brees will start today vs. Jaguars, despite a foot injury that had him listed as questionable for game, per source.

FWIW.. Someone asked David chao on Twitter if Brees is risking further damage:

quote:

@ProFootballDoc: Little to no risk for next year to try to play through plantar fascia partial tear.

Seems like he'll just take a shot and live with it.

It's stupid. Both tackles are hurting...his mobility is an issue. If he gets seriously hurt, Sean can pack his bags.

I have had the injury. You cannot hurt it anymore and he will get a shot before the game.

If the doctors clear him, let'em play.

There is no reason to risk further injury for just 2 games

The shot will start wearing off at halftime. His mobility will erode through out the game. I admire Drew's warrior attitude quite a bit. However, let's not forget that warrior attitude made him jump in a pile in a meaningless game, which almost ended his career.

I'd sit Drew for the rest of the year and regroup next year.

Injury will come when Drew gets a shoulder fr being driven into ground due to lack of mobility

What exactly is the injury? If it is a slight tear, how is there no risk to further tear it; or is the recovery/surgery essentially the same regardless of the significance of the tear? Also, is it a pain threshold issue, bc I recall another high profile player missing time w/ the same exact injury (can't recall who it was, just remembered it affecting a fantasy decision).

Why is he playing is the real question. To play us out of a top 10 draft pick to gain that so called momentum for next year? Look I know you play to win the game and I'm all for that if he was healthy. But to risk further injury, and I'm not talking about his foot, but his lack of mobility, what's the point of it????
PLEASE SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME THE REAL BENIFIT FOR DREW TO PLAY HURT IN THIS GAME

Tell me the difference in quality of player at 7-8 versus 11-12 this year on the big board.

Because he believes he is playing for both his job and the job of the coaches and all the players around him. 5-11 vs 7-9 is a pretty big difference. No one tanks in the NFL - the turnaround is too quick on jobs. If Brees believes he can do anything to help his team and their families he will do it.

You couldn't convince a single player or coach that it's worth it to lose for a higher draft pick. Not one.

Brees is playing because I need him in Fantasy. However, Streif is going to get him blown up 8 minutes into the game and then he'll sit and I'll be screwed.

Ok point taken and I agree, however he's hurt and it's not a must win game, playoff game, etc. I just think it's a bonehead move to play him when he has to go hurt. Makes no sense to me.

Also I realize that picks 7-12 are all good quality players. Just depends on YOUR needs by position and the teams needs that select ahead of you
