The Skins unsurprisingly found no takers in a trade for the 34-year-old. Springs can still play, but GM Vinny Cerrato tipped his hand by immediately putting him on the block after re-signing DeAngelo Hall. At that point Springs' release had become inevitable and nobody would have given up a pick for him. Hall and Carlos Rogers will be Washington's starting corners in 2009. The Saints and old DC Gregg Williams figure to show interest in Springs.

Wouldn't mind him being picked up by the Saints. Better than Aaron Glenn last year.

Aaron Glenn played "okay" when he was healthy on the field... not great though.

Shawn Springs is an interesting option.

He still has it, problem is that is only 8 games a year. I'm thinking he'll magically have a healthy season though once he signs somewhere else. He would be a great stop gap for you guys.

Redskins Reunion In The Big Easy ??

I would not be surprised to see the New Orleans Saints to make a push for ex-Skins Shawn Springs and Marcus Washington. Both were immediate signings by Washington 2004, when Gregg Williams was in his first year as the defensive coordinator here.

Now Williams is entering his first season as the Saints defensive boss, and the team has needs at both corner and linebacker. Several league sources say they anticipate the Saints making a pitch for their services.

Reunion in the Big Easy?

don't need Springs, he's a solid old vet, but so is A Glenn, once Williams meets T Porter, a up and comin star, Gay a solid player, and evaluates his talent at DB, he'll change his mind.

Okay, I am still trying to figure out why should we do this? Good vet but at what cost?

something I hadn't read before at T-P 03/02 10:30pm update-

Springs (6 feet, 207), who has played the past five seasons with Washington, has 32 interceptions and five forced fumbles in his career since being drafted with the third overall pick out of Ohio State in 1997 by Seattle. Injuries have knocked him out of a combined 14 games the past three years, but he has still played at a high level when healthy. There was talk last year of moving him to safety, which is something the Saints might consider. If nothing else, the flexibility would be an asset.

GW should know

not a bad NFP comment-

Our own Joe Fortenbaugh reported that former Redskins cornerback Shawn Springs was scheduled to visit with the Saints in New Orleans. This shouldn’t be a surprise since Gregg Williams is now the defensive coordinator in the Big Easy. Springs meshed well with Williams in D.C., and although he isn’t the playmaker he used to be, he would fit with Williams and his multiple defensive packages. No coach in the league uses the roster like Williams does. If you’re in a uniform, he will find a way to put you in position to make a play at some point during the game. Springs should jump at any offer the Saints throw his way.

Did you ever in a million years think you would hear this comment regarding the Saints? Pats yes, but Saints? Crazy.

Why replace one talented, againg vet that can't stay healthy with another?

T-P:

Springs had reportedly scheduled a visit to New Orleans today, according to the National Football Post. But we were never able to confirm the accuracy of that report. It's possible he'll still come here if things don't work out in Philly. Perhaps nothing was ever scheduled, or maybe he already snuck into town undetected.
Springs' whereabouts have been especially difficult to track, it seems. He was reportedly supposed to visit New England at some point this week, but it's unclear if that visit ever took place either.

they are talking about him replacing Dawkins in Philly. He had an interesting response talking about playing for Jim Johnson when he was at Seattle-

"I always liked his system," Springs said. "When I played for Washington, I was all over the field. I wasn't a full-time safety, but we had a lot of packages where I was like a safety."

Sounds like he is not adverse to the idea. Could this be a gameplan by GW as well? Very interesting
