NFL.com pushing hard to move CSP out of NOLA.

quote:

Payton was on my list last year, and I was surprised that the coach and the team didn't go their separate ways back then. Instead, Payton remained in New Orleans and then signed a five-year extension in March. The result? More of the same -- which, recently, has been playoff-free football.

At 7-8, the Saints are finishing up their third straight non-winning season, having gone 7-9 in each of the past two campaigns. When it comes to the Big Easy .. Payton's time is up. Payton's time was up.

quote:

The coach deserves so much credit for winning the franchise's first (and only) Lombardi Trophy and, of course, giving this proud city something to rally around in the wake of Hurricane Katrina's devastation. But it's time. His choices for defensive coordinator have been awful. The offense is still very good ... but not the same as it was at its height. It's just time.

The Rams are looking for an offensive-minded head coach with a pedigree who can win with Jared Goff, sell tickets and create a buzz in the entertainment capital of the world. The Los Angeles brass needs to pick up the phone and try to make a trade for Payton -- exactly what I said they should do the day they rightly (finally) fired Jeff Fisher. Payton checks every box.

And if the L.A. Rams are asleep at the wheel, the soon-to-be L.A. Chargers should pounce. Last year, I thought the Colts would be perfect for Payton. I still do.

One way or another, it's time for a change of scenery.

Hard to disagree with any of that, but next year is truly put up or shut up for the Brees/Payton era in NOLA.

Actually, Dennis Allen has been pretty good. And that's with an injury plagued defense. If we get Rankins back next year, Breaux and Kakaha can return and we can find a LB and CB, the defense should be much improved. Offense needs guard and scat back and we are finally about to clear all the dead money. If anything, we are in a good position.

If you actually follow the team, you see the rebuild and the direction of the team, not just the record.

I don't feel like the coach will make much of a difference. The organization needs to be shaken up from the very top. Just feels like a mediocre organization at this point. Hope I'm wrong though.

Last year, this was a young and much depleted team most of year. We're very close but need to have success next year no doubt.

All of this.

4 years ago, after Roger Goodell cemented his place in hell and his absolute need to be eradicated from this life, the franchise decided to get some high dollar FAs and try to win one with a patchwork team. It was a big risk and it failed, so we entered a rebuilding mode.

Next year we free a ton of cap room, we have a very young and very talented defense, and our offense is still absolutely elite when Payton doesn't piss his little panties and actually sticks to the running game.

No way in hell or heaven do I not give CSP 2017.

No way in hell or heaven do I keep CSP if we do not make the playoffs in 2017.

I agree with this.

I've been very pro-CSP and even I agree that if it doesn't happen in 2017 it never will.

I think Sean Payton and Drew Brees are ties that bind and they will be in Nola for as long as Brees plays or Tom Benson and Mickey Loomis are alive/in charge.

And that's not bad. Reading Mike Triplett's piece on Nola.com this morning, I found out that the Saints defense has been the 10th best since Week 6. They've jumped from 31st through the first six games to 25th overall. This defense is improving and getting healthy and the players are gelling to Dennis Allen's scheme

I think with the improved defense, returning cornerbacks from injury, a new draft and an expanded salary cap giving the Saints more freedom to improve their roster this team will have the opportunity to compete in the final years of Drew Brees' career.

There is no reason to break up the band right now.

It's like these morons don't even follow football. The Rams gave up two draft to get Goff. They have very few picks to trade.

So Sean Payton is a great fit for those two teams but needs to leave New Orleans? What exactly is the logic here? It sounds like simple sportswriter, West Coast bias that seeks supremacy of big city organizations.

I'm of the opinion that the Saints should retain Sean Payton, but he either can or can't coach, so the article makes no sense.

I agree with you. There is a trial balloon agenda to get Sean Payton out of NOLA, no matter how illogical all the media stories.

The article ends with this quote:
quote:

One way or another, it's time for a change of scenery.

The NFL writers are promoting an upper level NFL management agenda to make this happen. It does not have to make sense for Saints fans.

I agree with Breesus when he says:

so to paraphrase...

Saints should get rid of Sean so other teams can benefit from having him...should we send them picks too?

Schein's argument that Payton is incapable of turning things around in New Orleans are immediately dismissed when he names him as a "perfect fit" for teams that are struggling worse than the Saints.
