How 'bout the Saints snagging up every free agent RB left. I'm sure that way they would be able to account for a power back, a slasher, a short yardage back, a third down back, back that can catch the ball out of the backfield, a back that can pick up the blitz, a lead blocker, and a back that's good for their locker room.
I know the Saints have 6 or 7 backs under contract now but they could use some depth.

I agree.Nothing wrong with a stable of backs to choose from. This is where their needs are. If edge can't do anything, he can pass block and pick up the blitz. Maybe even rub off in a positive way .

Short and sweet...it would be RETARDED to bring in EJ or any other over-the-hill or underachieving back. What the Saints have under contract is more than capable of handling anything any turdnugget floating around on the waiver wire can handle.
If you can't handle a little rib poking then maybe you should stroll over to saintsreport.com. I hear the posters over there use coasters and only fart in the bathroom.

Back to the subject, I guess I don't have as much faith in our backfield as you all do sans Reggie and PT. IMO, Edge isn't quite ready to hit the senior tour yet. However, I do understand that we don't want to bring in a whiney player into a locker room that has no issues at all with team chemistry.
Its a tough call, it's not like Madden where you pick up any free agent just because he is over a 90 in rating.
I think it will be a big mistake to go into 2009 with our current backfield. Maybe I'm wrong.

Given Reggie is the weak link in the running game (as far as backs are concerned) he still gives you big play ability from time to time.
Based on what Thomas did when given the bulk of the carries last year he could've easily put up numbers of a top tier back. I know he's got a lot of critics banging on him for a couple third and shorts last year but (a he got met in the backfield on a couple of those and (b sometimes even the greats can't convert on third and short. I remember a Colts v Pats game where the Colts had 3rd and goal on the one yard line and the great Edgerin James was stuffed. They went for it on 4th down with the same results. Seems like the Pats stuffed LT on 3rd & 4th and goal a year or two ago as well.
I wish Edge well and hope he finds a home somewhere. I just don't think it's here...IMO.
