Then why isn’t West Virginia a bastion of violent crime? Not many more places more impoverished than the mountains of WV.

Well said ! I don't give a damn what these idiots say.
They are extremely overpaid people who could care less about the people who pay their salaries. If we don't watch or support these teams TV money falls. Money talks and BS walks!

It has drastically! The difference is that it's not on the news and there isn't mass incarceration. "NEWS FLASH' when WHITE folks do drugs, kill, steal etc.. then it's a society issue. The country opens rehab centers and tries to get help for the "VICTIMS/USERS". Can you imagine if the US started locking up all them white meth and opioids uses?...lol

**FACTS**
The rate of overdose related to the use of licit and illicit opioids has drastically increased over the last decade in the United States. The epicenter has been West Virginia with the highest rates of overdoses accounting for 41.5 deaths per 100 000 people among the 33 091 deaths in 2015. The purpose of this research was to examine and analyze the cause of the opioid epidemic and subsequent responses to it in the state of West Virginia. This study conducted a literature review using 37 references that were published between the years 2009 and 2018, complemented with a semistructured interview. The number of people injecting drugs has increased from 36% in 2005 to 54% in 2015. The total US cost of prescription opioid abuse in 2011 has been estimated at $25 billion, and criminal justice system costs to $5.1 billion. The reasons for this opioid epidemic incidence in West Virginia have been a combination of sociocultural factors, a depressed economy, lack of education, and a high rate of prescribing and dispensing of prescription opioids.

2021 West Virginia crime rates
Although West Virginia reports fewer crimes per capita than the national average, the state ticked upwards this year for both violent and property crime. Year over year, violent crime jumped 10% and property crime inched up 6%.
Both crime rates still fall below national crime rates, but West Virginia is one of the only states to see increases across the board. In the South Atlantic region, West Virginia has the lowest property crime rate at 15.8 incidents per 1,000 people—a rise from 14.9 last year.

State Senator Glenn Jefferies, D-Putnam, who was the the lead sponsor in 2017 of the Second Chance for Employment Act, said the criminal expungement law is an update to that act. The updated law allows citizens with misdemeanor or non-violent felony convictions to apply for their record to be cleared if they meet several criteria.

Maybe the Saint's captains need a public reckoning over the way black people treat police?

Are you suggesting that black people treat police the same way police treat black people?

For the most part, the responses have been spot on as to decline of the Saints/NFL and really, America today. I have been a Saints fan since the initial 1967 season as a young kid. It was something me and my dad loved more than anything, except for maybe LSU. Before my Dad passed away 3 years ago, he noticed the change in the NFL and how the game was starting to lose its luster. That change has now totally polluted the Saints/NFL- 'woke' politics and leftist opinions dominate, the game has become secondary. The players fail to investigate the true facts of their statements, instead, just like most 'woke' women, they just deal in illogical emotional b.s. and don't even get me started on NFL management. I am now a Saints fan only in the shadows, surprisingly, found out I can enjoy Sundays quite well without watching the games and supporting a bunch of players that just spit in the face of their fans!! Screw the big lie that is social justice!

So is it sort of like the fact that black on white crime is largely Ignored by the media, but white on black crime is reported as white supremacy?

The rate of violence in WV comparable to the lack of education and rate of poverty is no where near that of the inner cities. That is most noted in your own post:

quote:

Both crime rates still fall below national crime rates, but West Virginia is one of the only states to see increases across the board. In the South Atlantic region, West Virginia has the lowest property crime rate at 15.8 incidents per 1,000 people—a rise from 14.9 last year.

We can argue why and I do believe some if not most is systemic, but accountability has to kick in eventually.

The former administration tried to address a lot of these issues, particularly with regards to opioids and lack of business opportunities in the inner city, but some fought him tooth and nail. For the life of me, I cannot understand why.

The officer that shot their hero Jacob Blake just got reinstated. I wonder what they'll put his name on now.

I’m white an I hate the way white police officers act even against other white people. Including myself. So many are straight up thugs! Fortunately there are some good ones.
Makes one wonder what is the screening process for cops.

My local DA was a very very good friend of mine.

I remember him telling me years ago, What you don’t realize is that there is a fine line between cops and thugs. Way too many are interchangeable, the tough brother is a thug and the weaker want to be a cop

Bad cops are the exception not the rule. I can’t even take anyone seriously when they inverse it and project this thought that most cops are shitty.
