Only way I'd do this is if we got much more than just their first. In that case, I'd do it because we'll be rebuilding in a year or two anyway. I don't think Brees is coming back to the Saints regardless when his contract is up. Do the old Patriots move...offload veterans while they still have value. We could barely win with Brees last year...what makes anyone think that will change this coming season? We haven't made any moves in FA other than signing an injury prone RB who's inconsistent and got a great C. We're not historically good at drafting early. We have no LBs. We have no cap. I'd do it if Bucs were stupid enough to do something like give their draft away. At some point you're going to have to bite the bullet and say goodbye Brees. He has no weapons to throw to right now.

we'd have to get the #1 and a 3rd rounder this year and a first and 3rd next year and maybe a 2nd rounder the year after

in other words, we'd have to get SO much back in return for Brees that a team would be foolish to do it

aint happening

The only way I'd even entertain the idea is if we pulled some kind of RG3 haul. The Rams are set for years with young cheap talent because of that.

Why is everybody so opposed to this? Brees is a local hero but he is in decline. You cannot argue with that fact. Jameis is a POS but the dude is a gladiator, and he will win Super Bowls. If the team is truly in rebuilding mode, which it is, you bring in the franchise QB when he is available. This would free up tons of cap space.

I am not sentimental when it comes to football players. I don't care that your little boy will cry when Brees leaves. I just want to hang banners. And Brees ain't hanging any more.

I really don't like Jameis and don't want him to be the face or our franchise. The dude is very smart(book smart not common sense) though this is something people look past. He's a very gifted talent but if he can stay out of trouble and adjust his attitude I think he'd be an amazing QB in the NFL. He just needs to mature. He's intelligent and has all the physical gifts you want in a QB.

It would sadden me to see us trade Brees but if we got an insane deal for it I say go for it. I think he only has 1 more year here anyway. Based on how he's handling his no restructure it leads me to believe he has no intentions coming back or retirement.

This shite is becoming comical.

So it's less likely that an aging 1st ballot HOFer will get us to the Superbowl than a current college QB?

Elway
Manning
Unitas
Warner
Elway
Gannon
Tarkenton
Staubach
Morrall
Plunkett

all at least 36 when they played in the Superbowl

Elway didn't win his first until he was 37, a year older than Drew is right now

I disagree about that not being a possibility anymore. He's certainly still playing at a high level. I think the question boils down to whether the organization is truly all in on re-building, or are just trying to switch out some key pieces.

They really want to trade Drew and we end up with three 1st rounders this year? Lawd. Hell, I'd even trade that first pick back and get even more out of it.

Is your question who is more likely to lead us to a Super Bowl THIS YEAR? Obviously the answer is Brees.

Brees is probably the answer for the next couple of years.

But Winston is 21. As the Joker said to Batman, Think about the future.

STOP with the Winston rumors. He does not have the character SP demands fro his players...especially QB. Just because someone saw a rep of the Saints speaking to him at the combine all this surfaces??? Wouldn't it be expected some dialogue occur? The Bucs would be better served drafting the kid from Florida - not the Saints.
I get speculation of a Brees trade but certainly not to draft JW.

People thought Cam Newton's character would keep him from succeeding. They were wrong.

You don't realize how good this guy is. You are a fool if you relish the idea of having to beat this guy for the next 10 years.

Not that I think he's all of a sudden grown up, but at least he's making the attempts:

Jameis Winston sets up his own meeting with Roger Goodell

Obviously Payton told him to get his shite together or we're not doing this

Cam's character meshes with Rivera. What has Cam done that makes the Panthers accel so much? Playoff superiority???

Winston will never be close to the player Brees is. I assure you of that.

If CSP put a formulation of his ideal QB into a Cray super computer the print out would look just like Winston!

A guy that can't stay out of trouble in college is suddenly going to take the straight and narrow with new millions in his pocket? Winston has a better chance to be Ryan Leaf than Andrew Luck.

Winston will never be Brees caliber. Now, not many QB's will be Brees caliber. It's not often you get a 1st ballot HOFer. But I'd take 1-2 more realistic chances at a Superbowl with Brees over a hope for the future with Winston.
