mcdowell's stock has dropped and its a non need position being invested in fairley, Rankins, Davidson, Oneyamata

we can do so much better than white at 11.

This isn't who I think they'll actually get. This is a combination of my personal opinion of the players and the needs of the Saints.

White is worthy of the 11th pick IMO but we need a DE more

Malik McDowell would start over Sheldon Rankins as a rookie.

based on your saints board, those are the players that would be drafted with 99% certainty.

we don't use those type backs enough to justify a #11 IMO. Reggie at #2 was a perfect example. I don't count him as a failure in any way as a Saint. His performance did not live up to #2 pick status however. I only put Fournette on the board because he is a type that can carry an offense with his workload. It would take some adjustment of scheme to utilize him enough here though. The more Brees might be gone sooner over later the more Fournette would appeal.

Only 3 times since 2006 has a RB reached 200 carries here. A top half of the first round RB to me needs to at least approach 300 carries to justify the pick. Like Elliot last year with 322 or Adrian Peterson who is right at 20 carries per game over his career.

Good

As I said, I think that's a great draft.

No team has the same exact big board. Need is impossible to discount altogether. For the Saints I rank Lattimore over Fournette even though Fournette might be better. For some teams Trubisky or Watson might make their top 10. The Saints Big Board might have several defensive linemen or DBs that rank higher than the top WRs this year. In real life there is no single big board like on draft sites.

Pretty sure Payton would find a way to fit him. I imagine it would be a mix of Sproles, Bush, PT23 & current Ingram.

I hope we land Reuben Foster (if character checks out. I cant interview him), or TJ Watt. Sure, mock drafts have Watt going much later, but mock drafts are often wrong. TJ Watt is a tremendous athlete with a high floor and high ceiling, which is exactly what you want when picking in or near the top 10.

Watt may only have 1 year under his belt at the position, but, in that year, he had more sacks, more tackles for a loss, and more total tackles than Taco Charlton (also in the Big 10). On top of that, add a JJ Watt-style pick-6.

I did not put any offensive players in my top 11, because I feel our offense is top notch. If we don't address our defense, we are in for another 7-9/8-8 team. I believe both 1st round picks have to be defense. Drafting Fournette while he is a great offensive talent, doesn't do shite for our defense. I also think if one of the OT's drop to 32, we would have to look at getting Strief's replacement at some point.

Several of these I like. What is most different for me is that I do not see another CB being #11 good after Lattimore. Around #20 to 42 there is a shitton of them though.

Hard for me to see putting Fournette down past #11 too. We picked Deuce after Ricky Williams had a thousand yard season is the best way to illustrate that. He is a must pick in value over all but five others on my board. Not that anyone thinks he could drop that far but this is what teams must do to rank every player in the event the unexpected happens.

Not since DS was traded, but he'd bring that aspect back to life.

Malik McDowell will be a better DT than Sheldon Rankins...

This isn't groundbreaking. Rankins is ridiculously overrated.

Not considering a QB & WR. Didn't want to include a RB, but Fournette is just too talented(same with OJ Howard at TE). I think Adams is a top 3-4 talent, but we don't really need a 3rd SS(I think it's silly to think he could play FS in the NFL at an elite level). I left off Jonathan Allen b/c I don't think he fits what we need in our defense(just like Malik McDowell)...he's easily a top 10 talent though.

1 - DE Myles Garrett
2 - DE Solomon Thomas
3 - FS Malik Hooker
4 - CB Marshon Lattimore
5 - DE Derek Barnett
6 - SS Jamal Adams - If we do draft him & he pans out, I doubt we would re-sign Vaccaro...unless Vonn Bell is ready to assume the FS role.
7 - LB Haasan Reddick
8 - LB Reuben Foster
9 - RB Leonard Fournette - Pretty high ranking considering how devalued the RB position is.
10 - DE Taco Charlton
11 - TE OJ Howard

The guys that just missed the list for me are CB Gareon Conley, CB Tre White, & DE TJ Watt. Obviously, I'm targeting defense at #11.

Maybe

Kind of an unfair statement. He was injured to start the year, then played in the 1st game that he was eligible for. His play against the run was subpar, but he provided a great pass rush from the interior. 4 sacks in 9 games as a rookie. The pressure from the interior was pretty constant with him & Fairley.

If he improves his run defense...he could be extremely good. Thankfully we have Fairley & Davison(for running downs), while Rankins is still developing.

there has been some good discussion here. I've dug a little more and now see Conley as a potentially justified as a #11. This board is based on the premise of NOT getting Butler. That pumps the need factor a little more and the more I look the better he seems. Sheeit, hard to bump Howard down to #12 though...

02 Thomas
03 Adams
04 Hooker
05 Lattimore
06 Fournette
07 Allen
08 Barnett
09 Foster
10 Reddick
11 Conley
