This was expected, but that doesn’t make it any easier to accept. A rash of injuries and a short turnaround between games mean the New Orleans Saints will still be without several starters in Week 7’s game against the Arizona Cardinals — Nola.com’s Jeff Duncan reports that the Saints don’t expect cornerback Marshon Lattimore (abdomen), wide receiver Michael Thomas (foot), or slot receiver Jarvis Landry (ankle) to suit up on Thursday night. Lattimore’s absence is most troubling given Arizona will welcome superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins back into the lineup after serving his six-game suspension.

They’ll have a longer rest between games after this midweek kickoff, so it does make sense to avoid rushing those guys back. What’s concerning is that there absolutely does need to be a sense of urgency this week. The Saints are 2-4 and increasingly look like a squad that won’t even reach the “in the hunt” graphic weeks before the postseason begins. And there isn’t much of a light at the end of the tunnel after they traded their next first-round pick to the Philadelphia Eagles. They could lose every game left on their schedule and still not get on the board until Nos. 32 or 33 overall.

Hopefully Dennis Allen can tighten things up and prove he was the right man for the job. He was hired for his ability to build and maintain an elite defense that could carry the team to wins while the offense figures things out, but his unit has fallen on its face. They rank 29th in points allowed and gave up a touchdown on 3 of their final 4 drives (also yielding a field goal, and we aren’t counting Joe Burrow’s kneel-down to end the game) in a second-half collapse against the Cincinnati Bengals. If Allen is going to rebuild any confidence with the fanbase, it has to start here, in a prime-time game without his best defensive back.
So keep an eye out for the Saints injury report this week. We’ll be looking for official word on each of these players as well as starting left guard Andrus Peat, who exited the Bengals game with an undisclosed injury, plus backup guard Calvin Throckmorton (inactive with a hip issue) and reserve defensive end Payton Turner (inactive with a chest injury).

Can we just cut Michael Thomas?

Or just send him home tell him we wont need him any more?

I dont want to see his name associated with the Saints ever again, regardless of what it costs.

Getting Olave back will be a plus. Would be ideal if we either Landry or Thomas or both back going forward starting with week after Cardinals game.

No. We are stuck with him. This is Example A why you don't hand out top class contracts to people who don't have a professional mindset.

Thomas has done nothing to warrant his contract since signing it. He isn't a leader. He isn't helping the team. He just exists to suck cap space.

The patience we're showing with a record of 2-4 is concerning. This week is pretty damn close to a must win

I believe Deuce said yesterday that the Saints thought that if MT wasn't ready for Arizona that they thought he could be a go for the next week.

Seems reasonable. With Olave back, trequan doing ok, i wouldn't rush MT back for Zona if that makes him that much more healthy for following week trying to make a run rest of year.

Look on the bright side, fellas. If we keep losing like this, we are looking at a very high second round draft pick.

This is how the front office talks itself into keeping DA around

The Saints played well enough to win on Sunday without these WRs, Lattimore, and even that bum Thomas. The play calling on BOTH sides of the ball is what let them down. DA and Carmichael completely shite the bed in the 4th qtr. It seemed like they where not prepared to be competitive in the game but low and behold when crunch time came they played NOT TO LOSE and it cost them.

Plus the saints D is booty cheeks. They are scared to tackle and run away from contact. Except 20. That kid could be special

Can't dispute this. Injuries suck and are a part of the game. Some guys are fortunate and can go an entire career without an injury, some seem to get hurt all the time. First 4 years, appeared MT would be one of those guys that avoids major injury, last 3 make it look like he'll be one of those guys routinely injured. You can't predict this shite.

Until he's able to dress regularly and start producing; no one can argue this point. But, if they try to offload him before 6/01/23, his cap space sucking would be worse than the camp suckage Brees caused
