Playcalling was fine. The QB was just too timid and didn't look down field enough

Agreed. This was such a fricking stupid game to "establish" the run. It's not 1994, you can just run quick slants and flare outs if you don't trust your oline.
And Dennis Allen finally has two decent cover corners, and instead of scheming well with them he runs a zone scheme that he's apparently coached terribly

Other than just a struggling offensive line, which is obviously a big deal, looked like too many cooks in the kitchen on offense to me.
