Report: Saints will open training camp in Metairie
WWL.com Reporting
After deadly floods smashed through West Virginia and shuttered the Greenbrier resort where the Saints planned on holding training camp later this summer, there has been widespread speculation that the Black and Gold would be forced to stay on Airline Drive this year.
And now, former Dallas Cowboys VP of Player Personnel and Sirius XM radio host Gil Brandt has tweeted that the Saints will indeed be in Metairie when camp starts on July 27.

At least one report has indicated that the Saints won’t hold 2016 training camp in West Virginia, following devastating flooding in Greenbrier County, site of the team’s practice facility for three weeks in each of the last two preseasons. The Saints, however, still plan to return to their home away from home.
A source close to the situation tells PFT that the Saints intend to hold training camp at The Greenbrier resort, and that the Saints believe the practice complex and all other necessary facilities will be ready for them when camp opens late next month. Look for a statement to be issued by the team, sooner than later.
The Saints also plan to do something tangible to help with flood relief efforts. Which is very much needed and which the folks who will benefit from it surely will appreciate.
People living in that area are dealing with far bigger issues than whether a football team will practice there for a few weeks next month, but the decision of the Saints to stand with Greenbrier County should give the region a psychological lift as it embarks on the very difficult ordeal of recovering from the devastation brought about by 8-10 inches of rain falling over the course of 6-8 hours into valleys that became bowls for the water and mud that the mountains couldn’t hold.

The Saints released a statement Monday evening affirming their plans to hold training camp at The Greenbrier resort in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
Greenbrier County was hit by devastating floods last week. The PGA Tour event scheduled for The Greenbrier resort July 7-10 was canceled, and residents of the area have dealt with much larger issues than which pro athletes might be coming to town.
“Unfortunately, our community is very familiar with the loss of life and property these weather disasters can cause,” the team’s statement said. “We are working to assist those affected where we can.”
The statement said the Saints will continue to monitor the situation and “look for ways the organization can contribute in a positive way” this summer. The team encourages those who want to help to visit the United Way of Greenbrier Valley.
The Saints are scheduled to report to training camp July 27. They began holding training camp at The Greenbrier in 2014.

Saints: Training camp to start as planned in West Virginia
Dave Cohen Reporting
Despite devastating flooding, the New Orleans Saints say the team plans to stick with the plan to hold training camp at the Greenbrier in West Virginia at the end of July.
"We have maintained contact with officials at the Greenbrier and our plans remain to conduct training camp starting on July 27,” Saints President Dennis Lauscha and Saints Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis said in a release. "We will continue to monitor the situation and look for ways that our team/organization can contribute in a positive way while we are there this summer. We will do this based on the direction of the local community and the Greenbrier, so that we are not adding to the burden of this difficult recovery."
The statement noted that the Saints want to help, not hurt recovery efforts.
"On behalf of our entire organization, we wish to extend our thoughts and prayers to all of the West Virginians whose lives have been dramatically affected by the severe flooding the state has recently received," the team leaders noted. "Unfortunately, our community is very familiar with the loss of life and property these weather disasters can cause and we are working to assist those affected, where we can."
The statement says that help and assistance are greatly needed across West Virginia.
"We are working with the United Way to offer our assistance. We would encourage those that are interested in providing assistance to visit https://www.unitedwaygreenbrier.org."
The Greenbrier has canceled all reservations at the historic facility and instead is sheltering storm victims. Over the weekend it was announced the upcoming golf tournament at the facility will not be played.
"The Greenbrier Classic schedule for July 7th through the 10th has been canceled due to the devastating floods," CBS Jim Nance said during PGA coverage.
"All of our focus needs to be on helping all of the people of our great State. So many have lost loved ones, their homes, and have no place to go," Greenbrier Owner Jim Justice said in a social media post. "All of us are united with only one common goal to help the people through this terrible time."
The Saints are scheduled to open training barely two weeks after that PGA event was supposed to happen.
There is no word when the Greenbrier will resume normal operations.
West Virginia may have more flood woes this week. Additional heavy rain is expected in the same area where floodwaters have already killed at least 25 people.

This is Jim Justice who owns the Greenbrier resort.
Hopefully he's better at storm recovery than wardrobe choices.
Otherwise it's "Hello Airline Drive!"
