Guys.. We are ignoring the grain of salt rule this week!

No, not really. We're still taking this with a grain of salt. But these look pretty nice!

-Cam. Wow. I checked - he is the highest graded player in the NFL for PFF right now. Higher than Watt. Yeah...
-Kyle Wilson - did he earn more snaps?
-We are deeper at corner than we realized. When everybody is healthy at this position..................
-Richardon - what happened? He looked promising a few weeks ago. Maybe just a bad week. We'll wait and see here.
-Once again, Kenny V in the green. The comeback.
-Ellerbe. This guy has been a major factor in the defense looking good the last two weeks. Highly underrated addition. Need to get him healthy. He and Anthony account for, or were involved in, three turrnovers over the last two weeks. Fantastic flip.
-Lots of "solid effort" guys here in the middle.

-Armstead is the #3 tackle in the league, behind only Joe Thomas and Tyron Smith. Fantastic company.
-Nice day from the OL. Especially in run blocking. Hello, Unger! Welcome to NOLA!
-Hooman. BOOM!
- ... Ingram, Khiry ... yeah, not going there
-It's super apparent we need receiver help bad. Coleman was the highest graded WR. Coleman! ...
-Drew's positive grade in passing tells me one thing: he is not the problem here. The OL is not the problem here. We have no weapons.

Also, a fantastic article from PFF this morning on why Armstead and Jordan are leading the Saints out of the darkness:

Two reasons you shouldn't count the Saints out yet

quote:

Armstead has yet to allow a sack all season long, and has surrendered a total of just seven pressures in five games without being penalized once. He now sits third in the PFF tackle rankings, trailing only Joe Thomas and Tyron Smith, two of the blue-chip names at the position.

A third-round pick in 2013, Armstead saw game time towards the end of that season, and played in both of the Saints playoff games that year, grading well in the process. Last season saw a strong run-blocking performance while his pass protection was hit or miss, but this year he has taken a big step forward and has been one of the best players in the league at his position over the first stretch of the season.

Armstead and the rest of the Saints line were able to control their side of the line, but the Saints also won on the other side of the ball, with edge rusher Cameron Jordan in particular completely dominating. Jordan was a one-man wrecking crew, beasting his way through the entire Colts line in a performance that saw him line up line up in five different positions along the Saints defensive front and notch nine total pressures (two sacks, two hits and five hurries) as well as a pair of batted passes.

This was the highest-graded performance of the week for defensive linemen and puts Jordan out on his own atop the PFF rankings for edge defenders, some way clear of the chasing pack. To be clear, Jordan is grading better than players like Von Miller, Khalil Mack, Justin Houston and the rest of the marquee sack-artists.

I'm having trouble getting to these stats on PFF now. Is there a new way to get to them?

I just click premium stats on the pro section of their website. I think they are getting away from the premium stats and moving on to a standard grading scale. I don't think they sell premium subscriptions anymore. Mine is a holdover.

I think you're right, I thought I was grandfathered in as well. No luck. Guess I need to figure out these new grades

For the most part I thought he played well. If you take out that 1 stupid penalty (diving on the runner after he was down), his score is actually a -0.6. Not great, but not terrible.

I've never really paid too much attention to some f the smaller details on this before, but did PFF really charge Brees w/ a QB Hurry & QB Hit. Is this normal? Are they suggesting that 1 of his hurries & 1 hit were because of something he did?

here's the problem with PFF. The stats don't pass the eye test. We all saw Kikaha make quite a few plays yesterday, yet he has a negative rating. Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?!?! Yes I know, grain of salt.

Still this is all looking great for us. If Breaux wouldn't have fallen down twice, we would have a possible shutout along with him in the green.

I'll say this, I thought Cam was really mailing it in the first few games. The last two games he has been great though! I think Kakaha and Elerbe's emergence has taken some pressure off of him. And even the scheme seems to be better. This defense has played some really great football.

And as bad as falling down was for Breaux which lead to 14 points, he still graded out pretty well.

Cam was NOT mailing it in at all, he was still getting pressure just not the sacks, and his run D is usually always pretty stout.

Kyle Wilson earned the #3CB spot while Lewis is out, and he is doing well on the inside at NB.

Didn't realize Hoomanwuaie (sp?) had that much snaps...I believe he is the reason that Austin Johnson was I think a healthy scratch yesterday because Hooman can be the 3rd TE as well as line up at FB

But here is the problem with your eye test.... You don't have enough eyes to see every player on every snap in real time. Sure, Kikaha had some good plays. I completely agree. But what happened on the other 60 snaps that he wasn't making plays? Did you watch him on those? It's hard to see a guy hit the wrong gap, or whiff in coverage, if the play doesn't happen to go their way. You could have 4 amazing plays that everyone sees, and 55 terrible ones that no one notices, and get a bad grade. Everyone freaks out. But I think if you watched him on every single snap you might agree with them more.

I'll say it again, Armstead is the most important player on the team outside of Brees.

I was not a fan of Kyle Wilson making the roster after watching him during preseason. Oh boy does crow taste delicious...is this andouille?

Awesome game as a whole.

I know grain of salt and all, but it's great to see 3 OL at the top of the offensive side....

Not to pull the "I did" answer here, but for the most part I did. I'd say I watched about 50% of his plays, and I look for him on every presnap. I actually miss a lot of other parts of the game due to this. Did I see him miss gaps and be out of assignment? I can not answer that honestly, because that's something which requires study. I can say that I saw him be taken out of plays as well as actually be a factor in other players making them. He played a good game and had some shining moments.

Even if he had a bad game outside of his great plays, those great plays are enough to keep him out of the negative. This is why Tomlin ripped PFF last season, because they have their own specific way of grading that isn't fully accurate to how teams grade. Is it a good tool? Yes, and teams will use them to an extent. Is it one that is flawed? Absolutely, which is why they don't rely on it. PFF is more for media folk to run their numbers and write more accurately about players, but it is still a system derived by numbers people who never played football (as Tomlin said last year).

It looks like a good trade now. HooMan is helping us and Hicks was hurting us. Richardson is better than Hicks as well. Pretty simple.

Cam went freaking super saiyan yesterday.

I'm not too worried about Richardson.
He's been injured; he might just be slow to return.

Kikaha has spurts of awesomeness, but he's still putting it together with consistency.
Same with Anthony.
That should be expected for rookies.
He's gonna be a beast.

Also, not to brag, but I feel like I said we should give Lelito more chances (And Evans fewer)
