As always, take these with a grain of salt.

OFFENSE

-Right away, that pass blocking is more than impressive. +8.0? I can't even remember the last time I saw that in a Saints team.
-But our run blocking is less impressive. However, given the option, I'd prefer pass blocking to run blocking.
-Colston...I really wish this guy would start giving a shite again.
-Cooks' somewhat low score was probably due to his inability to break free of PP's coverage. Understandably so.
-I know a lot of people were concerned about Tim Lelito, but he had a really strong game.
-Strief continues to be ridiculously solid and totally underrated.
-Both Ingram and Robinson were great in the screen game, but neither could accomplish much on the ground.
-Snead only got 18 snaps? I mean, what the frick? CSP has GOT to trust his receivers. We can't run screens all day. This dude is the second coming of Lance Moore, but we're not using him.
-Coleman needs softer hands.

DEFENSE

-Cam Jordan coming away with the highest score is no surprise. The guy is a talented pass rusher, but he can't do it all by himself.
-To the guy who claimed that Vaccaro is terrible, I recommend he notice this score. If Vaccaro is back to rookie form, that's huge for us.
-I'm starting to think Jenkins will never be anything more than just a guy.
-Edebali got all of 4 snaps. It's like we're not even trying to rush the passer.
-Considering that Swann and Breaux are rookies (and Breaux never even got to play in college), I think they played really well. Swann, in particular, really impressed me.
-Hicks aggravates me so much. Why can't this dude make plays? He's all bark and no bite.
-Kikaha and Anthony had solid outings. Anthony had a rough preseason, but it's clear he's adjusting rapidly.
-Browner's negative grade is probably due to failing to cover Brown well enough. Dude is fast.
-Hawthorne was almost not in the negative. That's great for him.
-This is my takeaway for this game: For a defense that is playing 8 super young guys, they played really well.

Listen, we need to accept this fact as fans: this is an exceedingly young team. It's going to take time for the players to adjust to this level of competition and gel as units. It just will. Be patient.

Between the Youth and Injuries, the team may not start gelling until week 9 or 10. I just hope we can stay afloat until then. Maybe we can make a playoff push.

Sounds about right. Im not mad anymore (except at payton for giving up the last opportunity). We got beat by a better team on the road

The injuries is something I forgot to mention.
These guys are really being thrown into the fire.

Getting back Ellerbe, Byrd, Lewis, and Spiller will make a difference.

PFF obviously doesn't score playcalling, but CSP's playcalling is probably the thing I'm most concerned about.

I know Swann is in the negative but I was really impressed with him considering the circumstances. Hopefully he can get better and better as the season goes on.

Excellent break down. Loved the reference to Moore because the pass Snead caught reminded me of the pass Moore caught against GB back in 2008; except Moore took it to the house. Defense will only keep getting better with more reps.

I wish they had the feature of breaking it down by quarter

Also, refs have to quit calling illegal contact when the QB breaks the pocket. It isn't illegal, but the refs seem to forget that rule every week. They don't even attempt to discuss it

Well said.

Speaking of PFF, I spied next week's opponent's (the Bucs) grades just now.
Winston scored a -7.8 overall. That's rarefied air.
Also, there are two players on both sides of the ball in the green. And there are 18 players in the red.
Next week might be good for confidence-building.

-In an offense that relies so heavily on the pass, seeing the three WR's that got the bulk of the snaps ranked at the bottom of the group is bad. I mean, Cooks had one of the best CBs in the game on him. Colston had three passes hit his hands on the last drive without coming up with the catch. The int Drew threw was a perfect pass that only Colston can catch, unless he bobbles it then pops it up right to a defender. At this point, I'd be okay with Cooks, Coleman, and Snead seeing the bulk of the snaps. Snead needs to be more involved in the offense. He looked great yesterday.

Really looking forward to Spiller coming back. Ingram had a solid outing on screen passes, but Spiller (ONPAPER) should be much more dynamic.

This. There were some coverage mistakes, but they made some plays. Started to look more comfortable there at the end.

But that punt, man. Thats hard to stomach. Whats the best result from that, 3 and out and get the ball back in the exact same spot with no timeouts and around a min left?

These look a lot better than I thought they would. I'm glad our OL got graded well on pass blocking - I saw some media saying they did not play well and was wondering if I drank too much.

Still apparent we have two major issues on offense moving forward: we need a big-bodied, fast, talented, young WR, and we need better play calling.

Defensively, I think the young guys are showing something. We are pretty well stocked at most positions with young talents, besides maybe DL.

I think we will see this team grow as a unit quickly. Defensively, we should continue to grow. I think it is safe to say that next draft and FA it will be time to invest heavily in restocking the offense. Strief and Evans are old and close to done. Colston is done, and to be frank, I DO like Snead and Coleman but it is unacceptable that we have a bunch of UDFAs at WR. We need proven talent.

Watson is a good stop gap, but we will need to replace him soon, as he's getting up there too.

Well, strief is certainly getting up there in age, but I don't see him slowing down on the field.

did not pay attention to any hype he received during training camp. He had been hyped last year during camp only to turn in a mediocre regular season.

saw where he dropped some weight this year though.

he was 340 last year... ridiculous

I think that the run blocking will come together as they play more snaps with each other. Run Blocking is all about communication. There was one play where Lelito left the combo on Campbell to go to the LB way too early. Unger was not able to continue to Campbell's outside hip to get the seal and so he was able to make a play on Ingram for a 3 yard loss. That's a communication and time together error, not talent or scheme.

I feel much better going into week 2 of this year then I did going into week 2 last year. This team's ceiling is much higher.

I agree, but it's likely he only has 1-2 years of high level production left.

This is an interesting point, and well made.
Strief, Armstead, and Evans are veterans of the line.
But Unger and Lelito (especially at guard) are new to it.
They'll gel better with time.
